Hi,

My daughter is very keen on making short videos and would really like a decent (but affordable) camcorder. There's loads out there but what I've no clue about is whether she can use a camcorder to video 'selfie' vlogs - is it dependent on focal length?

Any advice greatly received, I really am clueless....

Do you mean a vlog (rather than a clog)? As I understand it, most vloggers use a DSLR type camera, not a smartphone.

Some recent recommednations here - not sure if this is the sort of budget you had in mind.

Thanks for your replies - I did indeed mean vlog (daft autocorrect)

She has a decent smart phone (better than mine anyway),but 'apparently' they're not great for videos/selfie videos. The DSLR camera I have is too big for her needs - also a bit expensive, we're really after something fun but functional of a budget around ?200

That would be my choice (so I get to have a go to!) but the request is for a flip screen *sigh*.

I may just have to put the Gopro on my santa list....

Thank you everyone for your help - I think I've narrowed it down to this https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras-and-camcorders/camcorders/camcorders/digital-camcorders/panasonic-hc-v180eb-k-camcorder-black-10142645-pdt.html

It's affordable and apparently has a minimum recording distance of 3cm - my daughter's arms are longer than that!

You can actually get decent quality by adding some external devices to the phone. it can be a good option in the long run as you can use the microphones etc on any phone when it's upgraded

theres a local guy who does iPhone filming classes, theres a list of kit that can be added on his site https://www.mobilefilmmaking.com

    • Many people have artificial trees, some people have real trees in pots which they keep from year to year, and some people don't have a tree at all, so the fact that there are fewer trees on the streets than houses doesn't necessarily mean that "the majority of people dispose of theirs responsibly"! Does the council not publicise their requirements anywhere other than on  their website? I never  have a cut tree, but if I did have, I would assume that the council collected them, particularly seeing other trees on the pavement. So I don't think it's necessarily the case that people are being selfish or unneighbourly, though as with anything, some might be. They just may not know that if they don't have a brown garden waste bin, they have to contact the council to arrange collection.
    • A sharps disposal container has been left outside  our house near goose green.   If you or a friend is missing one PM me for exact address. Presumably a contractor collects a full on and delivers replacements.  Better than a keysafe you didnt order!!
    • I would like to recommend Robert Mills, he came to sort out our central heating last week.  He is punctual, clear about what needs doing and gets on with it very efficiently.  His contact details are 07952 584171.  Thanks for giving us back a warm house Robert!
    • Thank you everyone.  Let's hope they all get cleared sometime soon.
