Hello! me and my (wonderful) wife celebrate 5 (wonderful) years of marriage next year and are thinking about renting a house for one of the may bank holidays for us and some of our mates (around 8 couples total plus 8 kids under 4yo).

has anyone done something similar that they would recommend? Ideally would be within 2-3hrs of london with either a beach near by or a pool on site. Have seen a few but just see so many vases and stuff for my little darlings to pull over and smash... Also would like to look at having the possibility of catering for dinner for the adults on one of the nights but that's not essential.

Any insights/recommendations would be very helpful. thanks very much

Gladwins farm could be possible; the farmhouse sleeps 16 and hadleigh cottage sleeps another 4; the two interlink so can function as one big place. Gladwins is very child friendly, cook meals available on site or they will organise babysitting if you want to escape to a local pub or le maison talbooth for a good meal.

I've stayed here with my family for Christmas twice and it was lovely - not too many nick nacks, sofas you aren't worried about being jumped on, but everything clean and nice and comfortable. https://www.mulberrycottages.com/cottage/holiday-cottages-in-kent/18201-great-higham-barn-complex/

We didn't use the pool and I don't know if it's heated but we did use the hot tub which was great.

Or if you want to go a bit further, Peak Venues in the Peak District have lots of lovely converted pubs that sleep huge numbers of people and they're done up really nicely - not too fussy but fresh and modern and comfortable. We went to look at a couple of their places this summer and were very impressed. I have a big family and we hire a huge house every other Christmas so I've spent ages looking for nice child friendly houses that sleep lots of people. Have fun!

I've stayed at Treowen near Monmouth several times with a group of 30+ (8 families with kids from 3-12yo). Symmonds yat is lovely and very close. I think they can provide caterers although haven't used them. It isn't fancy and there is plenty of outside space

We're staying here this weekend with similar big group:

and have stayed here a couple of times (Peak Venues as mentioned by scareyt)

Has the advantage of a big dining room so you can eat together. Both Peak District though, so no beaches...

    • The family may of course donate to a charity of their choice. The fundraiser will remain open, there is no way of closing it early and it was started before I was made aware the family had said they only wanted prayers... I know them fairly well so am hoping they accept the funds for Akif's children in good faith. They can always put savings aside and I'm hopeful the children will learn how well liked Akif was locally. Thanks and please let's avoid further comment. We will never agree, so please donate or don't donate as you wish 🙏 thanks
