Doodles
Lived in Islington form mid 70s till moving to Whitstable in the mid 90?s (not a great idea) and to ED a couple of years ago. Miss the Screen on the Green and the Scala, and the bands at The Hope and Anchor. But much has moved on and guess only the Screen remains much as it did back then. And I guess X-Ray Specs at the Hope would have the same appeal for me now.Do find myself back there now and then, mainly for football and to see old friends. Upper St now feels more like the West End, full of students and tourists.I fell for East Dulwich after I used it somewhere to meet a friend who was helping me find somewhere to live. I didn?t find myself lingering in Whitechapel or the cheaper parts of Islington I could still afford, but spent more and more time happily wondering around SE22.As I said, been here a couple of years now. Like the park, the Rye, the shops, the generally friendly people. Works better as a place to live than as a base to travelling to and from. barrymarshall
The one thing Islington has that East Dulwich doens't have is Get Stuffed. For those who don't know, Get Stuffed is a taxidermy shop on Essex Road full of wierd and wonderful things. An Islingtonian friend sent me a text today. Get Stuffed now have a polar bear and penguins! I think ED needs a taxidermy shop just to compete. Anyone interested? fish
In 1979, there was a house on sale for ?18,000 in De/D'? Beauvoir Road - but the ?26,000 one on Friern Road, clinched it for my brother-in-law - who was an Islington boy, born and bred. Once he crossed the river and saw the delights of East Dulwich, he was hooked. Shaggy
Lived in the Barbican, about ten yards from the sign that said "Welcome to Islington" before going South to the heart of SE22. tommy
We've currently got 2 Islingtonites living with us for a week or so - their comments about our area- great transport links, getting a seat both ways into Blackfriars- difference in price with the cinema- lack of drunks and threatening looking people at the station- great local pubs without the gangs of transient fun seekers- thriving independent shops and restaurantsI think they've turned...
