mattham
An earlier thread on food shops got me thinking about what to have for dinner ? what's everyone cooking tonight?I'm trying to eat less meat, but don't have a great selection of veggie recipes ? can anyone recommend good, quick, healthy veggie meals? I'm lacking inspiration! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1736-whats-for-dinner-tonight/ Share on other sites

lozzyloz
I've just cut some sage from the garden and I'm going to fry it up in butter and olive oil with some freshly chopped garlic and red chilli. Then squeeze in some lemon juice, S & P to taste and mix in some fresh pasta. Parmegianno and basil to finish. Takes 10 mins. SeanMacGabhann
tonight is defrosting 12 chicken wings from (inserts name of reputable butcher here*)Then I'm blitzing 3 Scotch bonnets, 1 habenero and 1 serrano chili, some passata, spring onion, salt, pepper, garlic and a dash of (praise the Lord!) dragon's blood sauce, mix it up, oven bake at high temp, crips on the grill - total time 30 mins....(*have tried "packaged" wings from an assortment of supermarkets, high and low. Fatty shite the lot of it. And very expensive in some of them too...) Nero
I just made and ate chicken* and mushroom* risotto* with broccoli. The latter was not that nice as the stems were too hard and stringy. Banana*, yoghurt* and honey for afters. G and T in between. Nero* denotes organic ingredient Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1736-whats-for-dinner-tonight/#findComment-48364 Share on other sites
dulwichmum
I have just been to Sainsbury's, and they were selling "Vanilla Risotto with Rhubarb compote"... My mother was laughing so loudly - I feared they would call security! Apparently, in olden days it was called rice pudding with rhubarb jam! Ask for a pay rise.I try and cook a big meal over the weekend and then freeze portions for later mid-week eating. I had home made shepherds-pie (organic shepherds from Borough Market) and a banana. SeanMacGabhann
A decent take-away doesn't even register on the same scale as ready-mealsI'm not THAT bothered about the calorie/healthy quotient of any meal - it's the undignified, gloopy, untasty, pre-digested-ness of ready meals I can't be doing with...
