huncamunca
Given the huge piles of Guardians that pile up in the various LL & ED newsagenst on a saturday & the willing vitims that fight to get the last copy at Budgens at 7.PM, what would ED choose to read should the Guardian go out of business ? Pearson
What is this "guardian" you speak of..Surely the Daily Mail is ED's paper of choice these days! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17331-guardian/#findComment-436998 Share on other sites
katie1997
There are so many Guardians left piled up in any given shop towards the end of the day, I sometimes wonder if that many people in ED do actually read it? Seriously. :-S Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17331-guardian/#findComment-437001 Share on other sites

RosieH
You're all just jealous because you read papers for squares.EDF, it's time to get over this masturbatory Guardian-bashing. After all, we right-minded folks don't spend hours obsessing over your piss-ant little nazi rags. Seriously. :-SNot so many years ago you couldn't get a Guardian in ED after midday. Daily Telegraphs, on the other hand, were in plentiful supply. All of a sudden, the Gruin was everywhere.I think it is shonky distribution rather than lack of readers. BrandNewGuy
Back on topic, there are good uses for piles of unsold copies of The Guardian. Here's a reminiscence from Russo-American critic Dimitry Orlov: "My grandfather had a donkey while he was living in Tashkent in Central Asia during World War II. There was nothing much for the donkey to eat, but, as a member of the Communist Party, my grandfather had a subscription to Pravda, the Communist Party newspaper, and so that's what the donkey ate. Apparently, donkeys can digest any kind of cellulose, even when it's loaded with communist propaganda. If I had a donkey, I would feed it the Wall Street Journal..." MrBen
Reality check - it's just not that polarised. There's good and bad in all broadsheets. You get the extremes but there's also a ton of good non-politically slanted stuff. Not every piece in the Guardian is written for militant lesbian socialist hipsters and neither is The Telegraph a hot bed of nazi fox hunting capitalists.I frequently buy both but avoid the slushy Family section in the Guardian as much as Homes & Properties in the Telegraph. I'll even read the Mail for pure entertainment and disbelief value if I find one on the bus. BrandNewGuy
I used to buy The Guardian every day and The Observer every Sunday. I don't any more because they give it all away online. What's more, they used to be able to take the p*ss out of themselves and the Guardian-reader stereotype, which I thought was good, but they're far too po-faced and up themselves nowadays, IMHO. Mostly in G2 though. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17331-guardian/#findComment-437132 Share on other sites
