There is still a footpath through there between the flats and the park. I don't know if it is still called Snake's Lane though.

Amazing! Moving away from Snake's Lane a bit, I know, but I'm fascinated to see Upland Road was already there - and more incredibly there's an ancient barrow! It looks like it might fall just within the border of Dulwich Park. Does anyone know about this - can it still be seen?

It looks like Snakes Lane still exists as a path now part of Dulwich Park connecting Court lane with the South Circular (Dulwich Common road). It looks as though the wells are the source for the lake and Grove Cottage could be the site of the Grove Tavern Pub (Harvester).

The fireman's alley I know follows the field perimiter on the left and top edges of the field which snake's lane crosses diagonally. I think snake's lane is history (no pun intended obviously).

The barrow got me interested too - looks like it's probably under the local authority block though.

Fireman's Alley has a pronounced dog leg, with a gate into the park almost at the corner. It looks like Snake's Lane and Fireman's Alley coincide at the northern end; but then perhaps the path was relaid, from the park boundary, to follow the perimeter of the park at some point?

And while Fireman's Alley is no bad name, Snakes on a 'Lane has a certain ring to it. :)

A pity it's so often frequented by teen robbers (mobiles, bikes)... but maybe no change there from the 19th century.
