allowances for 11/12 yr old

I'd like to start my yr 7, nearly 12 yr old with an allowance for clothes and entertainment. What do other parents who do this give their child of this age per month? All responses appreciated.

i am guessing you have a daughter? my son at that age was not remotely interested in clothes so this would not have worked. i really think it depends on how much they are costing you and how much you give them already and how much extra they can earn through household chores. 12 seeems quite young for clothes though. my son at that age would not have needed more than ?10 a month for going out, but some children are very social and it depends on their peer group. can you ask one of their freinds parents?

My daughter is nearly 8.

i pay her 1? when she helps me with the house chores(not her chores).

if se helps me everyday i give her everyday(but is never everyday:))).Now she put all of them away.

you could give her everytime she helps you extra (to see that she earn the cash) and if she puts all away till weekend then she have for her clothes.

Teches them to be responsible and learn how to earn the money
