In the 1950s and early 1960s, we lived in Spurling Road and the Foresters was our local pub. I think that was the name in those days. Entrance was through a small door in Crawford Grove - I vaguely remember that this was for 'off sales' ( rather odd as there was an off licence at corner of Spurling and Crawford (opposite the sweet shop).


Very much a working mans pub - cannot recall carpets etc

Strange the smell got stronger the nearer you were to the gents, then .... :))


And it was a smell of piss, not of drains ..... :))

The drain which was not properly sealed at the time. was in the narrow bit between

the front and back bar and was the outlet from what is now the disabled Toilet.

It used to be the ladies toilet until it was moved upstairs.

It used to back up due to things that only 'Ladies' put down toilets. ;-)
