green chain walk cemetary gates closed

I was trying to walk to Crytal Palace from east dulwich today using the green chain route and found the gate at Camberwell old cemetary ( junction of Langton Rise and Wood Vale Closed. As it was only 2.30 I assume it hadnt been open all day is this usual?

The gate was open, I saw many people make the mistake of seeing the huge padlock and assuming the gate had been locked, including myself, but it was actually open.

The gates were open. I am taking this opportunbity to mention a that a "Friends of Camberwell Old Cemetery" is being formed. The second meeting is taking place on Saturday 7th May at 9.30am at the Chapel at Camberwell New Cemetery,Brenchley Gardens - please come if you are interested in the upkeep of this area

Thanks kk I saw the padlock and just turned around didn't think to actually try despite the padlocks presence oops oh well it meant that I got a bit more well needed exercise. Though feeling a little foolish now !

No it was easy to think the place was locked.

I walked all the way along to main entrance having seen padlock, but from inside, upon closer inspection, the padlock was just attached to the gate ironwork rather than the bolt mechanism itself.
