mockney piers
I do love looking on there for the weird and wonderful. There really are 7 (this is all over 18 by the way as i think it comes from the electoral roll) Chardonnays in the country, and 2 incorrectly spelt Chardonays too!In my new job I work with a Sorrel, which incidentally I think is a lovely name, which got me thinking about other herbs and spices.I see we have a Saffron on here, 600 odd of you.The are:2 Thymes1 Dandelion6 Chards24 Peppers3 Mints4 Tarragons20 Verbenas4 Chiles, 4 Chillis and 2 Chilis78000 Rosemarysand no Aniseeds in this country.Look, i just do this sort of thing, I can't help it okay? Ruth_Baldock
I also work with a Sorrel...*shifty eyes* Who are you?! Who do you work for?!I think it's a lovely name! Tarragon, less so. Although...looking at it written down, it looks nice. Loads of 'Chillis' at my secondary school, takes me back... Belle
Sorrel is lovely...I read a book as a child with a Sorrel in it, have always liked it since then. Also like Seren. And Romy/Rosemary. None of these my husband likes! I love Rory - am Scottish so particularly liking Scottish boys names at the moment. Although not Gordon... Pilch
My partner and I are planning to call our daughter Harper (due May 23). We both really love the name. Heard a story recently of someone giving their son the middle name of Danger. Purely so when they grow up they can say: "Danger is my middle name". Hilarious. I want to give my daughter the middle name of X. Just X. Harper X I think is great. I think she may grow up with superpowers with a name like Harper X. Don't think my other half will let me get away with it though. But yes, Harper is a good name. helena handbasket
My girl name was Mabel but my husband wanted Annabel, which I thought was a bit too precious. So we found Amabel in the Book of Baby Names from Yore (or something like that) which suited us both. No girl came though, which is probably a good thing because five years later I still for the life of me can't pronounce it. Fuschia is it pronounced Rory? I really like it. snowboarder
I liked Soren for a boy. Husband wasn't having any of it. Wasn't there a Sorrel in a Noel Streatfeild childrens book? I was a big fan.... Also liked the trio of Pauline, Petrova and Posy in ballet shoes... new mother
I and my friends tend towards more traditional names so there are some Marys, Elizabeths, Sophias, Catherines etc.As a variation on Margaret, I like Marguerite which strikes me as much more feminine somehow. Am I the only one shocked by the parents immaturity in giving the middle name Danger? It struck me as quite pathetic. Belle
Yes agree it's a bit unfair on the child with the middle name which is purely for a joke, though guess better than having a silly first name. I think I read somewhere that 'Delete' is a first name now. Why/how?! vesti
Thought I'd just have a little look at a nice sounding thread and now blood is boiling.Be nice if people worrying about names to call their kids would also worry about not offending others with terms like "pikey".Pikey is pejorative. Can we just not use it. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16878-baby-names/page/5/#findComment-431427 Share on other sites
