Our 6 year old has been having group lessons at Peckham Pulse for several weeks now but we're not that impressed with how she's progressed.

She enjoys going but we actually want her to be able to swim!

We're now considering one to one tuition at the same pool.

It's not cheap so we'd like to know if it's worth it.

Has anyone had any experience of one to one lessons there?

Thanks in advance.

As a parent of swimming children as well being involved with a swimming club, I'd say it's not worth it. Children love swimming together, they learn from each other. Unless a child has a specific issue to overcome, I'd say it's best to find the right class for the child. A quiet word with a member of staff with regards to the best swim teacher could help you find the right one. Teachers do work differently and your child might prefer another teacher. As well as this, when learning to swim, they progress at different rates, some faster than others.

Peckham has actually some good teachers too so it might be worth looking for the right one.

I have just moved my LO from Dulwich swim sch to Peckham pulse in the hope he progresses.

he started Dulwich swim sch around easter & theres been no progression!

this is mainly because of the fact theres a shortage of swimming instructors in Dulwich.

until late july we had a different teacher every week!

Theres also a block on children moving to advanced classes which if I remember correctly is because the children are not progressing in order to move up! I wonder why!!!!

anyway we will be starting at Peckham pulse this week.

I have spoken to the instructor & the manager about my expectations....... I want progress as this is what I'm paying for!

lets see......

I would stay stick with it - we went through all the classes at Peckham Pulse/ East Dulwich, there were many times when he seemed to make no progress and stuck in level 3 for ages, but he did progress, and is now stage 8 where the children can swim 20 -30 lengths easily - so he's really confident in the water and I wouldn't have got him to this level without the classes.

The classes are only 30 mins/week so I don't think you can expect visible progress weekly unless you're taking him swimming and teaching the strokes yourself (which we never did).
