Hi All.

I'd appreciate some suggestions for a present for my wife. I usually get some small bit of jewellery & take her for a nice dinner, but this year we're expecting our first child, who'll probably make their appearance a few days before my wife's birthday.

I'd like her to still feel that she matters & is still the amazing, beautiful woman she is, & am conscious the baby is going to attract the most excitement. I had thought about a massage/spa voucher, but any thoughts what might make her feel special, while factoring in the newborn!

Thanks

R.

i think it might be a while before she would be in a position to use a spa/massage voucher, so it might not really be that special. It depends how much you have in your budget, but I would have loved apiece of jewellery. You can get lovely personalised stuff on Notonthehighstreet.com or if you have a bigger budget (and depending on how many children you plan to have) maybe the first of a set of stacking rings...

you sound like a lovely husband!

I second this one, go for dinner somewhere nice and local before baby arrives.

Hi,

A friend of mine recently did this for his wife after giving birth. He bought her a ring but with the gemstone of the month the baby was born in. I thought this was really special, as it's a lovely gift for her but with the constant reminder of the memory of when your baby was born.

Sleep vouchers she can redeem for an immediate no questions-asked break in the coming months :-)

Of course, presents are lovely, but you cannot underestimate the value a few hours will be worth.

I hope all goes well for you all

My daughter was born 6 weeks ago and my birthday also fell a couple of weeks afterwards! My husband bought me a beautiful ring which he gave me when she was born and on my actual birthday (when she was 3 weeks old) he arranged for a chef to come to our house and cook us a 3 course meal which was a complete surprise! He chose a menu of my favourite things and bought a nice bottle of wine etc... amazingly our newborn cooperated and slept through the whole meal as well! It was a lovely surprise and I would definitely recommend it as you might not be ready to leave the house alone by that point.

He found the chef on http://chefscompliments.co.uk

Here are some ideas which may or may not suit based on varying budgets.

You don't know if your wife or you will feel happy to leave your baby so best to stick close to home. Use Perfect 10 mobile beauty. It's very well respected, reasonably priced and they offer spa treatments on your home which I think is key. You can book in a massage but if on the day your wife decides she would prefer a different treatment. The staff tend to be multi skilled and able to change it up.

Buy a good DVD boxset or subscription to Netflix. I can recommend Scandal boxset. Me and my two sisters all enjoyed with newborns.

There will be lots of long nights where she has to stay up potentially to feed the baby. Often this involves time on a phone or mobile device browsing whilst baby feeds. Check out Readly online. It's a way to subscribe to all magazines online and is actually a significantly cheaper way to read mags than the paper versions. I would recommend Grazia.

Make your own home spa for her. Buy a cheap foot spa from Argos, a sheet face mask which are all the rage (cult beauty is a good site for inspiration), you can buy sleep massage masks, hand masks, essential oils and creams and give her a full treatment yourself.

You could get a jar and some colourful post it notes. On each one write a lovely memory or compliment and fold it into the jar. Tell her you know there will be hard days ahead and if it gets a bit much to select a note to read in the hopes of lifting her spirits up.

Make a mix tape for her to listen to that reminds her how much you know her and love her. Music is easy to listen to with a baby. On that note, how about a Spotify subscription? Also an Alexa Dot to play it on.

To be honest the way you have described her in your post would make her smile and happy. Don't forget just writing something nice can be a lovely gift in itself.

    • The problem is Starmer can't shut up about his dad being a tool maker, they made Keir,  a right prize tool. Reeves continually blames the previous Govt, but correct me if I'm wrong but inflation was decreasing, unemployment was stagnant, with decreases and the occasional increase, things were beginning to stabalise overall.    Then we had the election 4 July when Starmer and co swept to power, three months on things are worse than they were before, yet Reeves continues to blame the former Govt. The national debt doubled overnight with public sectors all getting a wage increase and now the budget that penalises business with the increase in Employers national insurance. The result of which will be increased prices in the shops, increased inflation, increased numbers of redundancies, increased unemployment and increased pressures on the DWP to fund this    Future growth will go backwards and become negative, farmers will no longer farm in protest against the Govt, more people will become poorer and unable to pay their bills, things will spiral out of control and we'll have a repeat of the General Strike until this bunch of inept politicians resign and Kemi and co prevent the ship from hitting the iceberg and sinking.
    • Indeed so.  Just noting there are other options and many children and indeed young adults may well be perplexed and/or irritated by a cheque.
    • My experience of the CT is that when they screw up, their first instinct is to cover up. They are also shameless liars.
    • And that's your choice, but it's not everyone's choice.  Some people don't like or can't do what you do.
