The Dulwich Garden Company

(I recommend that you) don't employ The Dulwich Garden Company if you want your garden to be completed. The woman that owns this company, Miranda was always late to start and early to leave, when she was here she spent most of her time wondering around on the phone not doing very much. She never had the right tools with her, always at the suppliers, never on site and everyday left dirt all through the house. To top it off she has broken the children's swimming pool which I am very unhappy about. Miranda is unqualified - she pruned at the wrong time of the year, she's hacked at everything, I have things that will never grow back! The job was never finished and has left the garden a mess.

Wow I could have written this post myself. I completely agree and would advise anyone not to use Miranda.

We were also left with an unfinished garden, and damaged plants and property (including the kids paddling pool - it must be her speciality!). I could write a long list of failings but I don't want to think about it any more - I lost enough sleep over it at the time. I wrote to Miranda and her business partner asking them to rectify the situation but have been repeatedly fobbed off with "my colleague will contact you to sort this out". In the end I gave up and paid someone else to finish the job (having already paid Miranda in full).

This thread has now been reported to the forum moderator. It is pure malice and allegation. Sadly the woman behind this original comment has personal issues and is on some personal campaign. Anonymous and unknown other known friends of hers have been recruited in order to try to damage our reputations. Our previous clients would be shocked and would disagree entirely. DGC
This alleged Mrs D is and has not been a client. It is an anonymous post from a friend of the first alleged comment poster. She is merely complying to her friend's personal campaign We have also reported this defamatory comment to the forum moderator as well.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Yes,unfortunately I had paid her in advance.

I didn't ask to see her qualifications, if she was insured or even if she had a registered company and that was my fault. By putting up this post I only wish for others to not go through the same unnecessary stress, heartache and financial loss as I did. My message is for those looking a professional gardening service who do not want to be messed around, this was what happened to me when I hired The Dulwich Garden Company.

Unfortunately we also had a terrible experience of this company before we sacked them. Endless excuses for not turning up when agreed & being unable to complete the work. Despite offering a complete service, there was no steady team with the promised landscaping or carpentry expertise and no project management skills apparent. When I raised concerns they were met with rudeness & a refusal to take responsibility - all problems were blamed on partners, suppliers, sub contractors, workers etc.

Happy to give more details by PM.

We subsequently had our garden completed by a different company who were fantastic - highlighting how a professional gardening company actually operates.

My advice would be to avoid the Dulwich Garden Company. If you do still consider hiring them, ensure you visit actual completed gardens to speak to any satisfied clients before taking them on, and do not make any payment to them until you see work completed to the promised standard & timescale.

Admin/moderator - I am posting independently, having read this thread & realised that our poor experience wasn't a one off. Happy for you to contact me to verify this

Sadly I was a real client Miranda! And I don't know the original poster, nor was I recruited by them.

I would like to add to the growing discontent with this company - we engaged the dulwich garden company to do some work on our garden and replace our fencing. We have unfortunately ended up in a terrible situation between us and one of their tradespersons where money we paid as deposit wasn't used responsibly, and through no fault of our own we are now being taken into a legal dispute and the court system.

The whole experience has been horrendous. We paid on time and as agreed by all parties at the outset - we are now owed money in fact by Miranda but are still being held accountable.

I would avoid at all costs - its the worst experience I've had with any company.

I dont understand why people would ever pay anything up front for any work to be completed.

Even when ordering turf and topsoil (which is expensive) you still get charged for it 2 weeks after ordering, so theres never any need to demand payment up front.

If you're running a professional gardening business capital funds shouldnt be a problem.

We employed a contractor who cut back all trees and shrubs, pruned rose bushes, weeded back and front, removed all large garden waste by taking it to council refuse site. There were 5 people who arrived around 9 am and worked until around 4 pm with only a short break for drinks and food. We were invoiced a week later and paid directly into the contractor's bank account. No money was requested up front and the final bill was less than expected for the amount of work undertaken.

    • @NewWave that’s a good idea!! Someone cannot book well in advance to cancel regularly . They should monitor that.  Also I didn’t know you can book two weeks in advance. I was not aware of it. It’s even  more frustrating now because I used to book regularly without any problem a week  in advance and on the day. I regret it!  I shouldn’t have done it. Unfortunately no money back. I guess I can try the gym for some body weight training but don’t know how it works! Thank you for your feedback
    • Yes, probably, but I do like the one I have.
    • @Jellybeanz In response you know nothing about me I will not list all the charities I support (with regular donations) I simply feel there are ample inexpensive opportunities for small buisnesses to advertise their services.
    • @angehouse  I've found the same issue..its been the same for over 2 years now...every class I want to attend has a waitlist even 10days in advance and then a few hours before spaces magically become available by which point I've made other plans or do'nt have my gym stuff to hand and I'm not in the area (I don'nt lead a life where I can just sit at home and amble down to the gym as and when..theres only a few classes I can get to on my days off work) Its very very annoying. I'm sure its the same people that book well in advance then cancel..if only they could monitor the people who do this repeatedly and bar them from advance bookings for 6 weeks or something to teach them a lesson. For this reason I have'nt been to any classes at the gym for well over a year and just use the gym. Its frustrating.
