malumbu
Great idea Huguenot - can you help by finding this bloke's address, or alternatively arrange a meeting point and we can all go round in a sort of 'Looking for Eric' way and reek revenge.I've been PM'd by another person who had his bike nicked, and found 'the same one' being advertised on Gumtree by the same number. Hopefully plod will do something now. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16596-revenge-on-the-bike-thief/page/2/#findComment-437489 Share on other sites
Jeremy
Unfortunately I have little confidence in the police donig anything, no matter how overwhelming the evidence may. They only seem interested if the crime is actually currently taking place. Townleygreen
As an appendix to Pearson's good points posted earlier, I would merely add that people should strongly consider getting a FOLDING BIKE.These can be stored inside the smallest flat, and sit next to/under your desk at work. Therefore no expensive locks needed.Lots are available - Brompton's are expensive but favoured by many, but there are other cheaper makes with larger wheels. buyernothappy
I got a bike today. Sincerely I did not think it was stolen. When I got home I saw a crack on the frame and tried contacting the seller and could not reach him anymore. When that happened I googled his number and ended up here. The guy selling it did not look bad or like he was on drugs or anything. I checked the serial number on the net before buying too and nothing came up. He said he also bought the bike on gumtree. It came from the same phone number mentioned here so now I am suspecting it may have been a stolen bike.It is a specialized Elite 2011. I am willing to return to the owner if he can provide me with the serial number of the bike. malumbu
Simple thing is not to let a decent bike out of your site, and use an old one in other situations. What a sad world. ladywotlunches
mink turtle, glad to hear you got your bike back. But did you not call the police? By the sounds of it this crew weren't the brightest, and a quick call to the boys in blue could have seen them apprehended and stopped anyone else having their bikes stolen Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16596-revenge-on-the-bike-thief/page/2/#findComment-446405 Share on other sites
Huguenot
Yes, but then it could equally have seen his supporters in hock for Actual Bodily Harm, and would have been unlikely to result in a conviction or sentence.A good swatting might be a better trick. Jeremy
Well done for getting your bike back!It might have been worth calling the police. The lad stole your bike... surely a single punch in the face falls under the "reasonable force" bracket. People can't be expected to stand by while scumbags are blatantly thieving in broad daylight. ladywotlunches
Or even a call as a 'concerned bystander' would have alerted them to the problem without drawing any attention to any previous altercation. Danel_Davis
I hope everything was fine at the end. It is a poor story, but this is the reality.Danel, Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16596-revenge-on-the-bike-thief/page/2/#findComment-446901 Share on other sites

malumbu
8 more bikes for sale, I am surprised the seller doesn't Google his number and find that this thread is the first hit.
