Femster1
So I read all the 'rave' reviews about the spin doctor and decided to give him a go. Called the the day after he'd got from holiday (earlier this month) and he sounded a tad off, said he was 'stuck under a dish washer'. We arranged the job later for the following week. It was to fix what my tenant described as a 'faulty door' and I was quoted ?55 (thought it was a tad steep but posts about him were so convincing so went with it). He turned up a week later that day and I contacted him to ask if the job had been done to which he said yes (again quite bluntly) and then he asked me for my card details for payment. I asked what the fault was and he said it was just the water switch that has been turned off so I asked if he was still going to charge me ?55 and he said yes (blunt and to the point). I then asked what was with the one word answers to which he said ' he was 'stuck under a dishwasher' (again) and was struggling to multitask. In short he charged me ?55 to turn a tap on and was extremely rude to boot. I get all this rubbish about call out charges but is it me or are people just damn greedy these days. Suffice to say I won't be using him again so he can stay put under his dishwasher - woeful customer service. steve 1975
I can only apologise if I came across rude. I charged the agreed amount before visiting as it was out of my area in hither green. More than happy to give a full refund if you like. DirtyBox
So you agreed a price, he came and did what you asked him to do and you are complaining? If it was such a small job why didn't you just go round there and turn on the tap? Scottish Janet
If you've ever actually him and seen him work, you'll know he is always juggling phone calls and texts from desperate people with knackered appliances, at the same time as trying to fix whatever he's stuck underneath, and you're feeling upset because he didn't reply in the way you think he should have??? Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.Oh, and by the way, he came to fix our dishwasher ages ago - it was knackered, but he came back twice more to disconnect the old one and fit the new one and only charged me one call out fee. Greedy? I don't think so. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/163800-spin-doctor-under-a-dishwasher/#findComment-1166916 Share on other sites
JohnL
I pay the agreed minimum fee anyway (different contractors) - paid for various things, locking myself out, broken washing machine belt, leaking toilet. It always comes to ?100 for me for these (small things) - but when I do them myself - its a mess (you want to see my bath sealant attempt :) ). tasha1
Steve has fixed our fridge freezer and washing machine. The fridge freezer took some time to fix. The washing machine turned out to be a 5 minute job. Annoyingly, I had missed the 5p that was causing the blockage in the drain pipe when I cleaned it out. Both cost the same, despite one taking an hour, th either taking 5 minutes to put right. I didn't begrudge paying it (although slightly annoyed at myself for missing it) as this is the standard call out fee, regardless of time spent. I don't have no hesitation to keep using Steve as he's genuine, professional and a nice guy Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/163800-spin-doctor-under-a-dishwasher/#findComment-1166982 Share on other sites
Femster1
If I'd known it was the tap I would have gone round there and done it myself you moron! You're missing the point. EDmummy
Femster1 I'm afraid you owe Steve an apology. I've never heard of any tradesman not charging a fee for being called out. The fact that your tenant couldn't work out that the water switch was off is who has cost you the money. DirtyBox
But you didn't bother checking it was just the tap before you called out Steve and then slagged him off on a public forum when it turns out to be something simple you Cnut! KidKruger
This is a common problem in the way customers deal with tradesmen, expecting the tradesman's time to be worthless and having no appreciation that a tradesman books-out his time to visit you.Femster I reckon direct apologies to those you've accused / insulted on this thread are in order.Time to Man/Woman-Up !
