Be careful of rogue gardener called michael

I got his details on the forum and called him to do some gardening for me. He came and quoted how much the job is and we agreed. he told me its going to be done by 3 people in 3 days, which i found strange as its not a big job as such but then he is the expert. We agreed for him to start on monday because he said he'll be going to church on sunday, which is fair enough. He then called me on Saturday that can he come to do the job on sunday because the weather is good, i wasn't sure and said I'll let him know as i wasn't sure there'll be anyone in. On sunday morning I called him to go and do the garden as the weather is fine and that someone will let him in at 12 and we agreed. He then called about 6.30 that the job is done and sent photos of the garden and as agreed i told him to send his bank details to pay the money into on monday. He said no, he's not going until i pay and he is going to leave my house opened and was getting so difficult. I then kept explaining to him that I'm not near the house and don't keep cash on me and he saw that lots of work is being done on the property. Why i said he's a rogue is that we agreed the work will be starting on monday for 3 days and why would he do this within few hours and be pressuring me to pay instantly. At long last i had to get someone to get some cash to him as i don't want the place left open and don't trust him as there are building materials lying around. I just want to warn people so they can be careful and beware. Hope I am clear enough. His no.07508407167.

Omg thats the same guy from last time... Someone had problems with him and warned everyone not to use him. His real name is Patrick. He is an irish guy.

He uses different names. This guy rips people off. Surprised he always gets away with it

Admin maybe we should post a photo of him.

I think it's insulting to the gardener and potentially defamatory.

Was the job done well ?

Did you pay the guy for the job

Or or you paid per days of work ?

If you're a client you should have the money for the service when you receive it .

Can't see any info about anything he's done wrong except delivering service early

And expecting to be paid on the spot .

I too work for myself and had problems collecting unpaid bills from client here and there .

By the time tradesman leave he's done and can't go back as he'll be trespassing.

If I don't trust my client I too would tell you that I'll wait (happened few times)

You have the right to question the quality but if you're not satisfied but should not be telling stories about this BAD BAD gardener who came around ,done the job and want his money

There is also a guy operating who shows a letter with Age UK heading, saying that he is authorised by them to undertake gardening work etc foe elderly people.

He was last working in the Lordship Lane area (2016) but he is well known to the police and social services as a financial abuser. Again he uses different names - not sure if he is still at large. The last I heard one of his 'victim's- nephews was going through his aunts accounts as this guy was also drawing out money from a cash machine (aunt who had early dementia had given him the PIN).

    • Wren is most abundant bird in the UK but not a garden visitor.  I've seen one on the garden, but if you are quiet on the horniman pathetic you may see several flying out of the hedgerow.

    • Thanks, I had googled!    There is loads of info online, but I just wondered if anyone locally had more specific knowledge. It looks like it's probably too early for it to nest, but nevertheless I don't want to drive it away, as I like having birds in my garden!
