Alec John Moore
We've been debited ?72 which I think must be for the BMX at Greenwich or women's football at Wembelee. For us its more about taking part in the occasion as a family. murphy
Applied for nearly ?1,000 worth of tickets in a variety of sports including heats in a couple of the less popular sports, knew I wouldn't get everything but got absolutely nothing. Chippy Minton
Nothing either. Now that we know a million + people got nothing, I'm a bit mad the organisers didn't allocate a certain percentage for each event to be available only to people that actually live in London.Anyway, on to the second ballot...anyone know exactly how this works? Did they keep any tickets back for people that got nothing first time around or is it simply stuff that didn't sell? Also, I've read they'll be available on a first come first served basis - if this is literally the case, they better have a pretty damn good website to cope with a million people logging on at 12:01am the day they go on sale! StraferJack
Unsuccesful applicants get an exclusive window apparentlyIt's hard to see how the system could have been much fairer tho. If you set aside a percentage of London tickets it's probably small enough to still leave most people without any ticketsIf it was a first come first served basis- you could have done all the planning you like for events but it would be no good to you when the phones and websites meltdown. And more tickets would have ended up with touts. Which is where you start needing to be genuinely rich to get hold of a ticketAnd you simply can't spend the amount of money required to take 20 million enquiries in that 1 hour window - and leave that infrastructure hanging around doing nothing for the rest of the contractDespite the years and years of negative press, it remains an event which is oversubscribed beyond comparison. that's it really. Not nioce if you don't get a ticket but you just can't deliver the finite number of tickets to everyone who wants one. All that's left is degrees of fairness (if you can define fair) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16340-olympic-tickets/page/2/#findComment-442863 Share on other sites
david_carnell
I would suggest a limit on the number of tickets each person could apply for. People spending ?30k on tickets doesn't seem fair enough. Also, a sort of ranking system could have been possible where you could favour certain events over others in your selection.A simple algorithm would have sufficed I'd have thought. StraferJack
yeah but you would still end up with millions upon millions of people posting "I got no ticket" right? ClareC
They should have limited it to one ticket per person, if tickets are scarce, it's unfair some people have more than one yet others get none - especially londoners who are paying for it but that's another matter! Michael Palaeologus
Not a big fan of the Olympics really but as it is happening down the road it would be a shame not to go. I have no intention of travelling the world to go to a future games, so this was it.Didnt bother with the lottery, its a farse. Booked 1 ticket via the German website. My criteria - early in the games, in the Olympic park, a team game, otherwise unpopular. So I am going to see the Ladies Handball preliminaries on the first Monday. Will watch the sport and then mooch round the Olympic which we have paid for twice. Once via national taxes and then again via London local taxes. Loz
I think the biggest gripe is the lack of transparency. Seb Coe witters on about how "corporate allocations accounted for only 8% of the total number of tickets available.", but when asked what percentage of the Mens 100m Final tickets were allocated to the public he quickly changes the subject.I think the whole thing needs a good independent audit. Freddy1929
I applied for tickets so I could take my Grandson.I decided on a morning session at the athletics stadium, heats only, and then an afternoon session in the Pool for water polo, heats only.So we would see both venues, but I did not get any tickets at all.I did think of applying for a lot more tickets, but I have a very small limit on my credit card, and the booking conditions stated the money must be avaiable in your account from May until June.It does seem unfair to me that someone who applies for ?35K, but gets ?11K worth of tickets and someone who applies for ?80 worth of tickets gets nothing (I know, before you all start - it was a lottery - and the odds are obvious!!!)listening to the guy, who got the ?11K worth of tickets, on Radio 4, he said he was contacted when he was allocated the tickets as there was not enough money on his Card!!! It didn't say anything on the Olympic site, that people would get time to pay!!I shall be glued to my TV during the Olympics, watching everything!! and if I see EMPTY seats at the two sessions I applied for, Lord Coe will be getting a very irate call from me!!!!! Peckhamgatecrasher
Had a touch of wine, so this post may not make sense entirely...I've received an e-mail which leaves me no wiser as to which event I've got. However, at least I have been that lucky. But it seems that I'm also eligible to apply again which doesn't seem fair:Congratulations! We are delighted to confirm that you have been allocated some or all of the London 2012 Olympic Games tickets you applied for. You have been charged only for the tickets you have been allocated. We are currently updating your account. We will be in touch prior to 24 June 2011 to confirm the details of which tickets you have been allocated. We had an overwhelming response for Olympic Games tickets, with 1.9 million people applying for more than 20 million tickets. murphy
Received a legit email today - no tickets but a chance to book what's left later this month. Email included what tickets are available, and it's not a lot. A large number of sports are complete sell outs and much of what remains isn't attractive - Dressage Day 1, or 1st round of athletice/hammer qualifying.Better bets, and more fun to watch look like handball, volleyball, table tennis and weightlifting (apparently a great spectator sport).Stacks of tickets left for the football. maxxi
Listening to TMS yesterday Jonathan Agnew commenting that he bid for a lot of events in 1st round and all he got was dressage too, destined to be the byword for Olympic disappointment. *concerned friend* "What's up mate?" *crestfallen gent* "Dressage."*concerned friend* "Ouch."
