StraferJack
I'm just going by the public support as shown by the posts on here. It at least supports my claim as far as it goes. I'm not sure what Fred has suoporting hisPut it another way, the accusation Fred is making is more serious than mine, and he should have more to back it up. Ie an elected public body is ignoring the results of a consultation. When judging by most if the people I know AND looking at the posts on here it would appear there is significant support Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16243-north-cross-road-the-plan-to-extend-the-pitches/page/2/#findComment-436553 Share on other sites
James Barber
What I suspect Fred is talking about isn't as clear cut as we'd all like. Southwark undertook a survey asking amongst other things whether Sunday opening of the Market would be welcomed. The consultation was poorly executed - anyone one rewinding online didn't need to give a names or address so completely unclear whether they were locals or a bunch of mates supporting a particular view who don't live in the area. The consultation due to the online responses was clearly in favour of Sunday opening. I was surprised by the result but took it at face value until a bunch of residents attended the Licensing Committee with me and all of them were against Sunday opening of the Market. So East Dulwich cllrs visited nearby residents to the Market and it was clear near universal opposition to Sunday opening. Residents also created a petition and very eailly and quickly obtain 145 sinature of locals against Sunday opening. We had a Dulwich Community Council meeting to discuss Market changes and residents, teases and shop keepers were all against Sunday opening. So I can understand a conspiracy theorist - and southwards business plan for markets assumed North Cross Road Market opening on Sunday - but I think it was more cock-up Thant conspiracy. fredricketts
I never said the council does not listen, what I said was they set up consultations?, and then go ahead a do what they want. I.e.: the local residents did not want Sunday opening, and, in fact, I would think the residents in Northcross Rd,Nutfield Rd, Shawbury Rd, Felbrigg Rd, and Frogley Rd are highly delighted with more traffic using there parking spaces and tearing through their streets. The proposal was thrown out once, but somehow got back in again, I think a few councillors did not like the result and wanted their own way. I don?t think it?s a case of, what I want rather than what the councillors want. When the residents of Ashbourne Grove petitioned to have the Road cut off or made into a one way, it was totally rejected on the grounds of No access for the Fire Brigade, is this not the same in Northcross, the Council should be pandering to the local residents, not people from out of the area, the roads were made for vehicles to use, not stall holders and markets, Why should local residents have to put up with these inconveniences, just so as the council can make money out of the licences, and eventually cut off the whole of Northcross Rd. henryb
No I am joking. :o)It seems people very close and effected by the noise and inconvenience are generally against, people a bit further away seem quite keen, especially if a farmers market is involved. There was a public consultation and it showed local residents were just about for it ? however the validity of the consultation has been questioned and there appears to be some political shenanigans involving East Street Market in the whole thing. fredricketts
Most of the indigenous people, who live in Dulwich are of C of E religion, and to that extent, so are most of the English people. Part of that religion, was that Sundays was a rest day, and no one used to work, time out day, with the kids etc, which I happen to believe in, now the council is multicultural, we have to put up with changes that suite other cultures, to the detriment of our indigenous culture. I am sure that most home owners in London, do not want a market on their doors steps, with all the noise and hassle that markets create, and especially opening on a Sunday Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16243-north-cross-road-the-plan-to-extend-the-pitches/page/2/#findComment-436816 Share on other sites

peterstorm1985
I don't think it matters what religion the residents of ED are (I'm certainly not C of E), nor the council - that just takes us off down a dangerous path - but I do think that the residents of North Cross Road should be able to have one quiet morning over the weekend. If the market opened at, say, 1pm then I wouldn't object, but I doubt it would be worth it for the stallholders. Unfortunately for those who live on the road, there simply aren't enough of them to vote down those who won't get disturbed but fancy somewhere to take the weekend visitors. (I don't live there but I chose to vote against as I wouldn't like the market opening up outside my house when I'm having a Sunday morning snooze.) 'Non-indigenous' people aren't responsible for Sunday becoming like every-other day in Britain, most Brits in-fact no longer attend church and are mainly indigenous :o:) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16243-north-cross-road-the-plan-to-extend-the-pitches/page/2/#findComment-436845 Share on other sites

James Barber
Hi fred,When as the Ashbourbne petiton to close presumably its junction with Lordship Lane made?closing a road is the ultimate traffic calming. One of the issues would be ensuring rubbish trucks can turn around if they can't proceed through a street - or alternatively where could we put the turning point for them? Also shop deliveries. We'd have to ensure they all took place to the front of the shop which can be done but gets complicated.Look forward to your response. fredricketts
Hi JamesHope you are keeping well, after the amount of stick you get on here,Thanks for taking an interest in Ashbourne grove again. If Chesterfield Rd was made a one way, from Melebourne Grove end, and Ashbourne Grove was made a one way from Lordship Lane end,the carts just need to go up one road and down the other,Loading for the shops can stay the same, parking just round the corner in Ashbourne grove.Could you please let me have the web site for the committee meetings that took place for Northcross Road stallsThanks again Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16243-north-cross-road-the-plan-to-extend-the-pitches/page/2/#findComment-437102 Share on other sites
fredricketts
For anyone interested in our Local Services. It appears that among the cuts being made by Southwark Council is the Noise Team. The noise team, is only one of the essential services, essential to today?s way of life, for the general public, they avoid individuals being abused and attacked, when they complain at 3.00am in the morning, because a neighbour in the next Road is having a Disco in there garden. No one can sleep, kids awake. You are supposed to be able to phone the noise team and they come and sort it, and in the past they have done a good job, but now because of cut backs they finish at 2.30am, after this time, you have to put up with it, until it finishes, phone the police, nothing to do with us, it?s the Council Noise Team you want, but there not there, nothing to do with us. What do you do apart from tear your hair out with frustration and lack of sleep? It makes you feel like taking matters in to your own hands. There?s is no one there to up hold the Law. All wiped there hands of your right to a good night?s sleep. No wonder the Country is in the state that its in. the Labour run council decided to dramatically reduce the noise team service. They didn't need to make ?9M, which included reducing the noise team, of their cuts but they have chosen to pile up ?9M of extra unallocated reserves every year going forward. The Council already has 80 million pounds in reserve, earning interest for what, none of the rates payers, suffering, now, from these savage cuts, are getting any benefit from this money. Use it to stop some of these cuts that are only affecting the not so well off.
