Hi all,

As promised just getting back in touch to progress the Come dine with me idea. I've been having a think and I thought it would be useful to put together an 'About me' document for each of us to fill in and pm/e-mail back to me. I will then distribute the documents amongst us and/or arrange a get together in a local pub (in a couple of weeks) where we can all meet briefly and you can decide to commit to taking part or opt out. Groups will then be arranged.

Any thoughts or suggestions please let me know

Thanks,

Diana

Hello,

Me again!

Sorry its been so long.

I have received c.9 people since my app message so I am thinking it will be 2 groups of 5.

If you haven't got in touch confirming interest since apps went up please let me know otherwise you will miss out.

For those that have got in touch with me I have sent a message proposing an initial. Please let me know if convenient and I can arrange

Thanks

Diana

PS: I'm looking forward to meeting you all... as a little insight, ages currently range from 23-60.

These include:

A desert lover who has previously run to Germany.

An artistic social worker that doesn't like mushroom, tripe or brain!

A chinese speaking construction worker that likes to boogie.

A blue peter badge winner who is an advocate for Jamie Oliver's Lemon and Garlic chicken.

An italian food lover who would love to open a cupcake shop one day

Awesome idea - and I just been watching it on tv today - actually flew with Karen Perry (flight chick) last week who won the Swansea one a few months back (she came joint 1st and had lots of shoes in her spare room)...

I'd defo join in this:)

Hi everyone,

We have four lovely ladies who are doing Come Dine with Me and are looking to get one more local man or woman involved in the fun!

There has been tons of interest and we have dates confirmed so if you would like to join in, grab your diary and get back to us. Essential that you can make the first two dates and the 18th July - we need a minimum of 4 people at every dinner party.

Dates are as follows:

Weds 15th June: Rosie's night

Friday 8th July: Emily's night

Saturday 16th July: Diana's night

Monday 18th July: Bea's night

Date to be confirmed: Your night!

(Choose a date before Aug 12th when we're having an 'awards night' with the other party of five at a local restaurant)

Should be a great way to show off your culinary talents, meet your neighbours and generally have a laugh.

First response back gets the space....

    • I'd recommend just using the Hub's website to get caught up on this. I'm not sure why it wasn't posted at the very beginning because it is always best to go to the source especially since the original poster just copy/pasted directly from their news: https://carnegielibraryhub.org.uk/the-carnegie-library-hub-is-at-a-difficult-juncture/ The older EDF posts look irrelevant to the issues the Hub is having with the council since the main issue stems from a decision from the council in 2023. It doesn't look like the council is shutting down the library, but revising the library's operators terms, which then has prompted the operator to determine it'd be better to shut down than continue on? Their 3 main points of contention don't mention the council kicking them out, but rather reducing their scope within the building. "Consequently, the trustees and team have decided that, with Lambeth as a principal stakeholder and with the new restricted terms of tenancy which Lambeth appears unwilling to materially negotiate on, we are not able to fulfil our charitable objectives and have no choice than to set a timetable for an orderly close. We have informed all of our partners that we no longer have secure tenancy and will be closing by the end of December 2024 unless we can urgently agree terms that foster success for community use aligning with our charitable objectives."   "new restricted terms of tenancy" doesn't equate to "we no longer have secure tenancy". To me this reads as they're fed up and would rather close down due to their frustrations. That seems fair enough to me, but I think they should just say that, since it's how the entire thing reads to me. I've been to the library loads of times with my child for parties and school events. It's a lovely place and it would be better if the Hub could continue as it is, but this also gives me the vibe that if they can't have it their way then they'll shut down entirely.
