steveo
Have any of you globetrotters been to Ethiopia? I keep hearing the words mosquitos, tics, fleas, tapeworm and ghastly food. Is there an upside? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16186-ethiopia/ Share on other sites
Brendan
The day starts at sunrise rather than midnight. Not sure if that's an upside or not but it's different. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16186-ethiopia/#findComment-418170 Share on other sites
KidKruger
Ethiopa is a beautiful country and the people are real friendly, generous and accomodating. Friend of mine spent 2 months travelling there (4 years ago) on a motorbike and loved it. Loz
Good grief - most of Ethiopia is a high risk malaria zone. You want anti-malarials and full strength DEET-based repellent. Some pleasantly fragrances oils will be as useful as a paper umbrella in a monsoon. Loz
Going to a country that has suffered some of the biggest famines in modern times and then complaining about the food seems a trifle harsh. northlondoner
Spent a week there for work last year. Once you get out of addis it's gorgeous lush gently undulating countryside .Very historic - check out the ancient churches at Lalibela . Jaw dropping. But to my shame my overwhelming impression of the place was that it had an abnormally high proportion of stunningly beautiful women. I don't mean pretty or good looking . I mean women who are works of art, brought to blessed life by a benificent Almighty. Faces that dazzle the eye and pierce the heart. At every bus stop, every market stall, every supermarket checkout every passing car. From age 18 to 80. Everywhere you look, beauty , beauty , beauty. In the end it became slightly surreal - as if you were trapped in a blissed out narcotic haze of inscrutable eternal beauty. Sigh. Food was ok. steveo
Try the blog.Ethiopia is vast and the famine is down the road a good way from where I stayedWe found good food but they make an appalling bread called injera, which very likely could. It's like a slimy wet cloth and looks like stomach lining Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/16186-ethiopia/#findComment-471263 Share on other sites
