I am sick of getting on to the 63 bus and finding it filled with evil fag smoke. Drivers it seems are immune from prosecution, unlike the public. If we smoke we can expect a hefty fine but not your 63 bus driver. When he's parked up at the headstop on forest hill road he is a law unto him self. Some time back, I got so sick of it I took photos of them doing it and sent them to TFL, the bus Co and the local bus garage. Action taken... nada!

I'm not the sort to put up with any kind of antisocial activity on the buses. I'm the man who asks you to keep your hideous MP3 noise down and to not play music out loud on your silly phone. Recently though, I had a spot of bother on a P12. I asked some brat to stop playing the sounds of self hatred from his phone and he told me to FO. In his view it is ok not least because the driver of the P12 had a portable radio playing in the cab. Touche! I asked the driver if he didn't think he was setting a bad example to kids on buses. He was even more aggressive and obnoxious than the kid.

I think you will find that they are breaking the law if they smoke on the bus as it is part of the Smoke Free England legislation

Legally the bus is a public place and as such if you send photos to TfL and the bus garage now have a legal duty to ensurte that the vehicle is kept smokefree

If you want to complain to someone else then the following information is from http://www.smokefreeengland.org.uk

Smokefree Compliance Line

Who do I call if I see someone smoking?

If you believe someone is breaking the law by smoking in a smokefree premises or vehicle, we suggest you let a member of staff know as soon as possible so the incident can be dealt with quickly.

Members of the public may alternatively call the smokefree compliance line on 0800 587 166 7 to report possible breaches of the law. Your call will be answered by a call centre operator, who will then forward the information to the relevant local councils to follow-up as appropriate.

A call to the smokefree compliance line should be approximately 3 minutes long. Information will be emailed to local authorities on a daily basis.

Interesting response - take it that you and Jah Lush are smokers then....

I don't make the rules or inforce them but I do appreciate being able to come home from a night out and not smell like an old ashtray

As for the driver smoking on the bus, not a good thing as it is used by young children and it just isn't right to make them breath second hand smoke.

Nahhh the cancer will get you first....

Talking of funerals, even funeral cars and EVEN FUNERAL MOTORCYCLE HEARSES have to have no smoking stickers on their other wise spotless windows.

I rang the smokefree helpline and asked that - since it was law to have a no smoking sticker on all premises - could we have a sticker saying no murder is allowed on the premises and a sticker for every single other law that we already complied to. They said I was taking the piss. I said "you started it".

What annoys me about this no smoking malarkey is that I don?t drink nearly as much as I used to.

I only really smoke when I drink.

I used to head down the pub a few times a week for a pint of Guinness and a fag. I am now coming to realise that it was actually just an excuse to have the cigarette.

So now I sit at home smoke and booze free watching crap telly.

Although I might start riding the 63 in the evening as it sounds fun.

    • I am sure what the new plan is but who knows how the postal service will work from here onwards
    • My experience is that my local letter box does have week-day-ly collections - but I think very early in the morning, not at the old 'around 5.00pm' times. There are several daily collections from the box outside the Forest Hill Road sub-post office. I don't think the 'Monday' tab is now ever changed. Mail collections from boxes have got nothing to do with the service we (don't) get from the Peckham Delivery Office. Your Wednesday 12th posting would probably only have been collected on Thursday 13th, if it was posted after 9.00am. If it was being delivered in East Dulwich (where the Peckham DO does come into play) then getting it by the following Tuesday is probably par for the course.
    • Are there no daily collections from post boxes any more? On Wednesday Feb 12 I posted a Valentine's Card in the postbox which is about 20 metres from our house to make sure it arrived by Feb 14 (yes I know I could've put it thru letterbox but that's not as romantic is it). After I posted it I noticed the little metal thingy said "Monday" but I thought this must be a mistake and had not been changed. However, Valentine's Day came and went and no card arrived. In fact it arrived on the following Tuesday, Feb 18 so I'm guessing the Monday collection metal thingy was correct. Has it ever been announced officially that there are no longer daily collections from letterboxes? I remember a time, not even that long ago, when the red postman pat van would pull up at least twice a day, every weekday.
    • My lovely tuxedo cat, Rexy, has been missing since Wednesday which is very out of character. Rodwell Road area, SE22. He is a rescue cat so really quite timid with people he doesn’t know. If you spot him, could you please contact me? Many thanks. He is chipped and neutered.  Photos attached.
