HollieES
Hi folksMy son is 11 weeks old and has developed cradle cap over the last couple of weeks. I've tried olive oil - rubbing it into his scalp and leaving overnight - but all it seems to do is make him smell like wotsits and not help the cradle cap at all.Any advice? Knomester
In the end we found that detinox was the only thing that got rid of baby Knomester's cradle cap and it took a couple of weeks of 2 lathers every day at bath time. It's just coming back a bit now after a few months so I'm trying the detinox again. BB100
I tried Olive Oil but didn't find it much good. In the end it got so bad I got some stuff from the doctor and it lifted it off in just one treatment. Sorry but I can't remember what it was but it was in a big tub and was very thick but your doctor should know. charlottep
i've had success with detinox too. lather it up daily and the comb through with a fine tooth comb. Worked very well on our daughter Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15843-cradle-cap-in-an-11-week-old/#findComment-411988 Share on other sites
kam1
I find detinox good as well but it doesn't get rid of it completely. Last year when my other son had it my sister got rid of it one weekend when she was around by putting olive oil on his scalp and scraping it off with a very fine tooth comb, looked awful for a while but it worked! Fuschia
I just use orabnic baby shampoo, have him in the bath with me and wash the head firmly with a flannel then put some baby salve on it. Try not to stress, it's harmless.. never really goes IME but gets asked as hair grows! Saffron
I read some research (sorry, can't find the reference at the moment) that suggested that if it's truly cradle (ie, fungal infection of the scalp) and not just flaky skin, then adding oil can worsen the condition or prevent it from improving b/c the cradle cap fungus feed on oil. Knomester
Saffron - That sounds similar to what I was told at King's at the tongue tie clinic last year when we were also diagnosed with thrush. We were advised to use detinox to clear it up at the same time as other treatment for the thrush. snowboarder
Detinox worked for us but it did take a LONG time - I think I basically washed his hair (well, head, he had no hair!) every night and finished the bottle. Def took a couple of months. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15843-cradle-cap-in-an-11-week-old/#findComment-412053 Share on other sites
melbourne groover
There is a really good oil from healthmatters that sorted it for my son. It was in a little spray bottle, didn't make it too oily. Sadly can't remember what it was called but am sure Monica will know.
