Rasta Mouse

There has been, a lot of discussion on the radio regarding a children?s programme called Rasta Mouse this is about a Rastafarian mouse with a Jamaican accent that sings and solves crimes it is on cbeebies there has been complaints about the programme being racist.

I have spoken to my friends and colleagues who have children in this age group about the programme they do not find this programme racist I feel that is great to see cultural diversity on a children?s programme it is also good to show a Rastafarian even though it is in a form of a mouse in a good light as this does not happen often.

I have to say I'm still in 2 minds but my daughter loves it. It's not that I think it racist it's the rasta cannabis association that gets me. Although you don't see anything like that in the programme.

There has been over a thousand complaints Keef to the BBC that?s is why I wanted to find out how the public really feel about this programme or is this just a knee jerk reaction.

a quick google shows many sources reporting widely different numbers of complaints - but all the sources tend to be the ones that say "I see christmas is banned now" as well

I managed to contact reggae star Eek-A-Mouse for a quote on the 'furore'.

The other Mouse / West Indian connection I know is Maisy - the background music is always ska when you watch the programmes.

Maybe Rasta Mouse is the next logical step.

Did that apply back in the day, when children were watching The Clangers did children go around making noise at each other. You will find children in general do speak to each other in a different way to there parents quite a lot of them nowadays speak street and they can also speak properly it is also down to parents intervention as well.

Re: GinaG3, I don't understand why the Rasta cannabis association gets you. It's part of the Rastafari movement. They use it spiritually, as do the holy men in India.
