There's a brilliant local poet called Neil Rollinson (Spanish Fly) who's written quite a few poems about East Dulwich. Recurring themes that EDF regulars will identify with such as curry houses and public transport. Does anyone know whether he's published anything since Spanish Fly?

I was reminded today of one titled 'A Tin Church' which starts like this...

We start the white-knuckle ride

on Dog Kennel Hill where the driver

puts his foot down at the bend

by the pub, Villeneuve in dreadlocks,

putting the bus through its paces.

I've never heard of him but I'm not really into poetry. If I was honest I think it's a waste of time and your extract doesn't change my opinion. I had a friend in my teenage years who has become quite well known as an artist but his work left me wondering what it was about it that people found interesting. Must be something wrong with me I suppose.

sniggers

I remember being forced to read Seamus Heany and being appalled at the way he made his lines rhyme

"Between my finger and my thumb

the squat pen rests, snug as a gun"

see what he did there? do you? do you?

see it rhymes .. and this is why he is paid the big bucks and 16 year olds are forced to learn about him

I'm not a bif fan of poetry either, but that said, I love song lyrics which I guess you could call poetry, but it's the fact they're in a song that makes them great.

Mrs Keef is an English nut, and loves poetry, and if she listens to a song, she'll listen to words first, tune second, which is the opposite to me.

    • I've not had any success over the last three years.  Repositioning it this year.  I heard of some twitchers homing in on a nest as they could hear a swift, only to find out that it was a recording which attempts to lure swifts in.  We only have a small number above Horniman Gardens.  I've seen them close to ground in Sydenham and Clapham  I think half the issue is disruption in and from their wintering grounds where there are less favourable conditions than in years gone past.
    • We got Leon back to wire in our new oven. He is excellent: responsive, friendly, does a good job, and happy to take small jobs. Highly recommended! +44 7707 925039

    • I've not posted any restaurant reviews here for a while, but with the long Easter weekend approaching I thought I'd serve an update. I recently reviewed The Palmerston and elsewhere became involved in a debate about the best pub lunch in SE22. So which ones do readers here currently rate?  Yes I know people can just do a search for "Best pub lunch" but as well as new eateries popping up all the time two of the places I've reviewed – EDT and Bishop – have had a reboot since I reviewed them so I'm interested in hearing how they are doing now. Click eats dulwich to read reviews.
