Dear SimonM,

Off topic I know but anyway, from your previous posting I can tell that you live down my end of the street (I also received an apologetic leaflet) I've recently spotted several cars cruising our street very slowly with people with laptops trying to piggyback onto unsecured wireless networks, had one on mine till I spotted him parked up. I had assumed they were just looking for free Internet access until I saw some scare mongering documentary about Internet crooks stealing all your details. My network is now tight as a badger?s wotsit. Anyway, just thought I'd be neighbourly n all, as Police 5's Shaun Taylor would say 'Keep 'em peeled'.

I had been trying to remember what that Cafe was called!!! I used to love it in there when hungover and in need of grease, but now it's "The Uplands Cafe", it just doesn't seem the same!

    • Many are enduring the cost of living crisis. Whilst I feel for single people living alone, the point is many families also feel squeezed financially so you saying it's fairer for larger households to pay more for water consumption is a bit mean spirited. There are many many situations people find themselves in and one could also argue that single people living alone in 3 bedroom houses are disadvantaging families by taking up more space than needed. The discussion could go right down a rabbit hole. The basic point is water should be free. It was until privatisation and now it feels like yet another tax on working families.  I'm using the term hardworking families because we've been hard hit by many increasing bills. That isn't to take away from single people or those without kids. Obviously everything (well most things) are choices. Everyone is entitled to free speech last time I checked. Why does the term hardworking families bother you so much?! Jeez...
    • I've not had any success over the last three years.  Repositioning it this year.  I heard of some twitchers homing in on a nest as they could hear a swift, only to find out that it was a recording which attempts to lure swifts in.  We only have a small number above Horniman Gardens.  I've seen them close to ground in Sydenham and Clapham  I think half the issue is disruption in and from their wintering grounds where there are less favourable conditions than in years gone past.
