Which P&T has best headroom in doubles kit? Or what to do when baby's head reaches frame in Vibe?

Recommended Posts

Title says it all I guess. 7 month old about to touch the top bit of the doubles kit frame. What's the next step, tuck your chin in for a year and good luck until you're tall enough that you can semi comfortably rest your neck against the frame?

Or shall I swap my newish Vibe for another P&T and if so, which?

I sometimes put my toddler in the back seat which works out great for the baby but it's a very wobbly push and the toddler gets fed up relatively quickly. Oh and the straps in the front seat don't fit over a toddler's winter coat. (she's 2.5 and only slightly bigger than average). Leave alone those in the back.

The short straps on the old model Vibe are a known problem - if you call the distributor on 01234 344230 they should send you some extenders for free. I think I just squashed mine in the rear seat, but can't really remember now, sorry!
No help sorry, but have been wondering the same thing. I have just turned mine into the double seat and my 5 1/2 month old baby is nearly at the top already. Why can't they just make the seat a bit longer?
Thanks for the number Mellors! Ordered the straps right away. And yes I agree Peppa... we tend to take the Maclaren with the buggy board out but our 2.5 year old sometimes needs to be able to sit and/or nap when we're out on longer trips too.
Will ask my friend for you, she has a Vibe, her eldest is about to turn 3 and the youngest is 3 weeks older than I and a very big lad!! I've been out with her and both boys sleep and seem comfy in it x

Thanks Clare!

I was thinking of ordering the doubles kit from the Sport (isn't that the one with the longer seat and the less pronounced frame?) but I doubt it fits on the Vibe. I really don't care about looks so anything that works is good for me. On the Sport you could make a thin foam pillow with the shape of the frame partly cut out and attach it with velcro. I really don't want my kids to be princesses on the pea but the Vibe frame is a bit more bulky than a pea.

ok, i'm at risk of sounding very stupid here, but i didn't initially realise that the back of the seat can be pushed through so it rests on top of the frame at the top. I'm sure its obvious to everyone else that has one. maybe?.

:)

Perhaps someone has the sport doubles kit and wouldn't mind you trying it. Alternatively John Lewis and Mothercare would be helpful. Another idea would be to contact Phil & Teds direct, their customer service is really good and may be able to help.

Your welcome to try my doubles kit, it's the Vibe 2 so may be slightly bigger, the only obvious difference is the hood.

My friend has text me back and says she hasn't had any problem with her Vibe with her two. She said her youngest does tend to be in the main section a lot as the eldest likes to walk but when he is in the back it's Been fine and not a problem... She def has the same model. Sorry can't be more help :-(
I think I should just have M in the back more, it's just that S isn't really heavy enough to provide enough counter weight yet. It doesn't tip over but it often feels like it will and M should definitely not climb out by herself or the thing WILL fall! And it's a bit wobbly with so much more weight in the back unless I block the swivel functionality in the front wheel - and then it becomes a pain to go around corners ahahah

Ha ha, I have just seen your post Sanne Panne... sorry :))

It's a sign of the times that I no longer look at posts about double buggies, we're well and truly out of that phase now.

By the time M was getting to the head bashing the frame stage I had moved her up to the top seat and was forcing C to walk a bit more, figured it wasn't fair on her to have her down the bottom where she couldn't see much when her brother was perfectly capable of walking. He was happy enough to sit down the bottom when he was too tired to walk (most of the time - he would still take the buggy option now at 4 if given the chance).

It was a bit tough to push at times set up this way, but I found it pretty tough to push no matter what to be honest! Did it's job when I needed it too, but wasn't sad to sell it when the time came.

I guess that's what we'll be doing too Pickle. M can walk most of the time and for that last bit up the hill she can jump in the back (making it pretty much the same as a Maclaren with a buggy board although the back seat does allow some proper rest when you go into town). Did you use to lock the front wheel too or were you ok with the swivel on?

I left the swivel on, found it far too difficult to push with the front wheel locked. We had a buggy board on our Maclaren but hardly ever used it as I found if C got tired walking, he was then also too tired to stand on a buggy board, and the resulting meltdowns 15 minutes from home were too much to bear!

These days the trusty micro scooters have revolutionised our lives! Even the Maclaren now sits gathering dust in the hallway.

We live on a hill now and I just can't bear the "carry me, carry me, carry me" requests during the final bit of the walk home. Carry you, your scooter and push a buggy? Ummm... not even if I wanted to. So scooter only for the park now ;)
