Hi,

I'm moving to the area and am considering my different commuting routes. I've traversed the bridge mentioned above after dark only once and didn't spot anyone hanging around. It is well lit and the area seems to be very safe. Does anyone use this route late at night? I am a sensible person and understand the fallibility of anecdotal versus actuarial evidence on risk, but would just feel a lot safer if i knew there were lots of people using this thoroughfare without issue already.

Thanks all,

BT

This is a well used passage and I have lived in Ivanhoe Road for over 30 years. I have never had a problem or heard of one. I mostly use it during the day but have used it in the dark and it is fairly well lit.

The more people who use it the safer it will be.

oh good news.

i removed my flasher comment as i realised this may have been facetious or seeming to poke fun at a serious crime. sorry to have caused offence.

i was pleasantly surprised by the lighting. thank you for the vote of confidence ironjaw.

Oh... d'you mean the curious little alleyway right at the end of Ivanhoe Road that comes out at the top of Choumert? I've only been through there once (middle of the day, before I knew my way around the area) - very pretty, if a bit perplexing!
hmm, not sure where this is but now I'm curious as I often cross the bridge on Avondale.....I've just google mapped it and it looks like there is a crossing from the end of Ivanhoe rd through to Copleston - is that where you mean genwilliams or does it bring you out further down on Choumert? Fascinating I'll have to investigate.
I use it reasonably regularly at night and have never encountered anyone there. It's better now they cut back some of the bushes at the Ivanhoe end, which means you can see all the way down. You get a nice view across to Canary Wharf from the bridge too.

This footpath is part of my regular running route - a route I take 2-3 times a week in the dark and have never had any problems, seen anything etc. In fact, I don?t think in all the years I have lived here and used this cut through that I have even passed anyone else using it! This does, I realise, not make it safe! but I don?t ever feel any angst when running up/down there...

Welcome to the area!

    • The problem is Starmer can't shut up about his dad being a tool maker, they made Keir,  a right prize tool. Reeves continually blames the previous Govt, but correct me if I'm wrong but inflation was decreasing, unemployment was stagnant, with decreases and the occasional increase, things were beginning to stabalise overall.    Then we had the election 4 July when Starmer and co swept to power, three months on things are worse than they were before, yet Reeves continues to blame the former Govt. The national debt doubled overnight with public sectors all getting a wage increase and now the budget that penalises business with the increase in Employers national insurance. The result of which will be increased prices in the shops, increased inflation, increased numbers of redundancies, increased unemployment and increased pressures on the DWP to fund this    Future growth will go backwards and become negative, farmers will no longer farm in protest against the Govt, more people will become poorer and unable to pay their bills, things will spiral out of control and we'll have a repeat of the General Strike until this bunch of inept politicians resign and Kemi and co prevent the ship from hitting the iceberg and sinking.
    • Indeed so.  Just noting there are other options and many children and indeed young adults may well be perplexed and/or irritated by a cheque.
    • My experience of the CT is that when they screw up, their first instinct is to cover up. They are also shameless liars.
    • And that's your choice, but it's not everyone's choice.  Some people don't like or can't do what you do.
