I wish the High Street Banks on Lordship Lane (that have cash points) would make the effort to keep the cash points filled with cash over the weekend. All it would take is for one person to visit during the weekend (preferably Saturday morning) to top up the machines, its not as if they have to put in a full day.....

Harrumph.....

As for those robbing machines that charge you ?1.50 to get hold of your own cash....... Jeezus??

I used to work for securicor and we did sometimes put money in during the weekends but only if it was going to be a bank holiday/christmas weekend etc.

We could only put in what the banks tell us to put in, so some cashpoints would have 10k some would only have 5k and so on, it is stupid but alas it is all controlled by the big boys and there was nothing we could do.


Quite agree about the machine that charge you money to take your own money...we will be charged for breathing soon...mark my words!

I've been to Lloyds bank, tried to get money, found it was empty and had to go to costcutters which charges to get money out as there are no more local, i am certainly not spending two pounds on the bus at night to go further down lordship lane to try a cash point when it is late.

The trick in the 70's when I was a student. No cashpoints - if you had forgotten to cash a cheque or run out the only option was to buy something in M & S for ?25.00 then return it in another store and get cash back.

That was the 70's. Some places won't take cheques anymore. I suggest bank account holders be implanted with a microchip which can be updated online or remotely, and shops, pubs etc have scanners you just have to wave your hand over to pay for your goods. Not sure about the technology but it would rule out the need for cash points!

But what if we get rejected/not authorised due to lack of funds? can you imagine how embarrassing it would be when the bar person says " sorry, but you have been rejected" ohhh, won't even be able to buy a beer to cry into!

Then muggers would have to cut your hand / arm off to grab your cash - could be a downside?

I think if someone produced a severed arm to pay for a grocery shop at Sainsbury's then it might raise an eyebrow. I hardly see that going unnoticed and they'd have a hell of a job to explain it. Offhand (bad pun) I can't think of a viable excuse for being in possession of a severed arm.

In some places I don't think they would notice frankly. The arm(severed) could be stuffed up your sleeve. However all in all I think it's a bad idea(for reasons mentioned) and needs more thought put into it. Be back later!

I've got a unique idea - i'm going out on Saturday afternoon to get some cash from one of these new-fangled ATM machines. Don't think anyone else has had the same idea.

Anyone fancy going into Barclays or HSBC and venting our anger about the lack of cash in their machines.... I would go but I?m at work and by the time I get back they will be shut. I think SeanMacGabhann's tact and diplomacy would work wonders in this situation.

Anyone else agree?

      Not sure about changing hands but the Peckham Rye one is open and hasn’t had any random closures. Our child is very happy there but there was a resolved Ofsted complaint half way through last year.  Things don’t look good for the Devon nursery owned by the same company - looks like loads of issues with Ofsted which can be seen in its latest report.

      I was in Forest Hill Road today, just past the Rye, and noticed there is a dentist next to the Herne (pub) that has NHS signs outside. I've never had any problems getting NHS dental treatment in East Dulwich, and I get regular check ups. I've been to three  different dental practices here over the years, all with NHS treatment. I think the difficulties are in other parts of the country. Malumbu has a good explanation above. I didn't hear the Radio 4 programme, but I'm guessing that a  radio programme is not going to have time to say where you CAN easily get NHS treatment, and is bound to focus on the negatives and the horror stories, otherwise it would be very boring! ETA: Re children's teeth, I think the major issue is not lack of dentists, it is children being given sugary food, drinks and confectionery which rots their teeth. The education of parents needs to be about this, not just about tooth brushing. And in some cases the poor diet may also be due to lack of money for healthy food. Though of course the lack of dentists doesn't help, if  the tooth rotting can't be rectified by fillings or extraction.

      Well, I hope you like what you see, the hot air, lack of answers and continual blaming things on the last Government and the made up blackhole, I find are nauseating. The man needs to see reality, because I'd guess that if we had a snap election tomorrow and based on the first six months of this parliament, Labour would get trounced. When the election does finally happen and if that isn't before the people rise up and throw this lot out, Labour will not be voted back in for a millennium.
