SimonM
Heinz Beans have always been too bland and sweet and mushy - always been (sic) ABH ("any but Heinz")for me, and Branston became my favourite as soon as they were "revived". I used to adore Cross & Blackwell years ago. The only exception to the ABH rule is their curried bneans with sultanas, which go marvellously with sausage and mash..Welsh Rarebit on granary toast with a layer of beans between toast and cheese is food of the godsTinned baked beans and sausage (again, Heinz is okay for this as well as Branston) is great with a jacket potato..Odd Fact: if you buy Branston beans via Ocado it has for some time been cheaper to buy 4 single 440 gram cans than one 4-pack...SimonM Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15557-beans/page/2/#findComment-406666 Share on other sites
Ladymuck
I actually make my own "baked beans" from time to time: takes hours on end, but well worth it. That fresh taste cannot be equalled. 'bout now
I like My beans two ways, either on sourdough toast topped with a couple of poached eggs and Worcester sauce, or cold from the tin.Never, ever, ever on a fry up, that's just horrific. katie1997
Beans 'on' toast is a culinary minefield.1. Heinz beanz / 'new and improved' Branston beans2. on the toast / on the side*3. with / without marmite4. with / without grated cheeseOtherwise don't fuck about with this classic dish. * I know someone who cannot eat it if the beans are even remotely coming into contact with the toast (*rolls eyes*) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15557-beans/page/2/#findComment-406705 Share on other sites

Applespider
'bout now, I thought it might be just me who likes their beans cold from the tin. I like them occasionally warm with eggs... but then I need HP sauce to mix into them along with the egg yolk and some sourdough toast...Will have to try the Branston ones... acumenman
I buy the cheap Asda ones and heat them up on the lowest setting on the smallest gas ring, put my plate over the top of the saucepan as a lid (this heats the plate)and wait a few minutes stirring once or twice, before pouring through a strainer which removes the excess salt and sugar locked in the sauce, and then they hit the plate with the rest of the fried potato and either bacon or sausage. Cookey
Did anyone ever see that TV program about the girl who had a phobia of baked beans!? (and no I'm not 'bean' funny!)I believe the clinical term for this phobia is Leguminophobia.
