Looking for genuine word of mouth recommendation for a cleaner

Recommended Posts

Searching on behalf of a neighbour who has arthritic hands. She needs a trustworthy cleaner who can also help with ironing and preparation of vegetables. She's got leaflets from Cleaning AMW, AL Cleaning services, KDT Cleaners, The Cleaner Solution, Dolphin Domestic, One-call-solution, Nationwide cleaners, Merry Maid, Molly Maid, Brighter cleaners, GMeryclean, DiamZ, Timefor you, Crystal cleaning and cleaning gurus but doesn't know if theyre any good. Seems to be a bit of minefield.

I used to own and run a cleaning agency - absolute nightmare.

If going through an agency check that they have fully comprehensive insurance not contingent as the latter is useless.

Ask for a cleaner that has been with them for years, avoid Fridays and Thursdays, and ask to see the ID and address checks plus references taken up. Some agencies claim they do this but don't bother.

If you give your cleaner a key then make sure they understand that if you're paying for three hours help, you expect three hours of work to be completed. If they want to leave early then they should take the appropriate payment/leave change.

Customers also need to be realistic when it comes to expectations - if you can't clean, iron and change the bedding in your home yourself in three hours, your cleaner won't be able to do it all in two hours!

    • Ask the surgeries.  Most dentists  I have been to were child friendly.  The only one was the school dentist who'd come in a caravan and do lots of unnecessary work, which I now suffer from.
    • Round-robin letter received this week regarding this. Main points are that the number of new homes is being reduced from 877 to 867. OK, not much change there, but.... "A reduction in the number of affordable homes from 270 (35% by habitable room) to 77 (12% by habitable room)" That's a 72% reduction in the number of affordable homes. I don't know a lot about this kind of thing, but it seems that just 77 affordable homes in a development of 867 is a massive pee-take in an area where a 1-bed flat is £400K+ if it isn't "affordable." If you're interested, the application can be viewed at https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/ ref 24/AP/2074 and there's a lot of objections to the reduction in affordable homes. The drop-in sessions are Weds 26th Feb (Peckham Library) and Mon 3rd March (All Saints Church) at 3pm. Full details attached. 24_AP_2074-FILE_COPY_-_NEIGHBOUR_NOTIFICATION_LIST-4005193.pdf
    • I noticed 4 gone in a short stretch of Bellenden Road alone this weekend. I had no idea it was to do with the tech and thought that it was a retro Beastie Boys thing. Showing my age. Sorry I can only find a Facebook link if you are too young to remember this: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=578367166664170 Totally agree that it's a bad design flaw, and I bet the actual cost of the parts to VW is minimal so they could easily cough up some of the replacement costs. It's depressing that someone can go along a street popping these things off cars with very little worry about being prosecuted.
