karter
Comparing car drivers to drug dealers hilarous thanks for the laugh though. SeanMacGabhann
Jeremy, I'm not arguing the point at all. My last post acknowledges as much and I have agreed with that statement everytime someone makes it. I am not asserting that the mortorist is always in the wrong at all, and if I am giving that impression let me say that is not my intentionHoweverWhat happens on here tends to be (and correct me if I'm wrong) people who have been caught legitemately and looking to get out of the ticket. I know of some posters who have been slapped with a ticket incorrectly, but in the main it tends to be the otherAnd having these cowboy firms in operation is obviously a bad thing, but it is a symptom, not a cause. Not all motorists are in the wrong, but more than enough flout the laws at a ridiculous rate. You can see this yourself just observing any stretch of road for a few minutes. When that behaviour stops, teh rest of the problems go awayThe drug dealing analogy was a stretch obviously, but the attitude amongst those caught legitimately is strikingly similar Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15452-parking-fine-outside-east-dulwich-deli/page/2/#findComment-404658 Share on other sites

Jeremy
SeanMacGabhann Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> The drug dealing analogy was a stretch obviouslyI'm glad you realise that! You only have to take a bus up Walworth Rd (or really any high streeet) to realise how disruptive illegally parked cars can be - you'll find no argument from me there. But sometimes the behaviour of the traffic wardens (or whatever they're called now) can be truly appalling. SeanMacGabhann
it was more than a stretch - it wasn't even meant to be taken literally but such are the breaks when you try and cut down on smileys in 2011. I'll be more careful in future Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15452-parking-fine-outside-east-dulwich-deli/page/2/#findComment-404666 Share on other sites

Or take a bus up LL, and wait for it to negotiate the aforementioned parking smart car Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15452-parking-fine-outside-east-dulwich-deli/page/2/#findComment-404681 Share on other sites
kford
But maybe Sean does have a point in comparing drug users and motorists:Average fine for possession of heroin (1998): ?129Fine for parking where you shouldn't: ?120 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15452-parking-fine-outside-east-dulwich-deli/page/2/#findComment-404688 Share on other sites
DJKillaQueen
Recovery of vehicle impounded for driving without insurance ?150Average cost of recovering a vehicle for being illegally parked ?400Incidently, some councils pay more to parking contractors than they actually make in fines which is also just as stupid. SeanMacGabhann
Unless the roads are, yknow, actually clearer, which is the point Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15452-parking-fine-outside-east-dulwich-deli/page/2/#findComment-405118 Share on other sites
DJKillaQueen
It's not the roads that are affected though is it.....it's parking spaces, because that's were most people are fined...for being in a parking space at the wrong time of day or over the time of the ticket they bought. It also used to be that a vehicle was only towed if it caused an obstruction. Again a vehicle is often towed for being in a parking space at the wrong time. Equally unfair is the process of increasing the fine if paid after two weeks (or whatever it is). It is prohibitive to the process of appeal. There is a lot to criticise in the way and the reasons for which we fine motorists. kford
And clamping a vehicle, so it blocks a space, or a road. There were three cars clamped by Denmark Hill station one morning recently. How is that solving anything? Two of them were still there when I rode past at tea time. Marwood
I think it's great that a healthy marriage can be expressed in such a way. My only concern would be that 'unloading' a loved one in such a public place, whilst quite exciting I am sure, could result in prosecution.
