Have had mixed experiences of the place.

It is a massive improvement on the horrid place that it once was, the beer is very good, both in quality and choice but I am undecided on the food.

Ate there Saturday afternoon, we took the serrano ham and rocket on ciabatta, olives and feta w. ciabatta and a morrocan flatbread with chicken, all very good and did the job nicely, despite waiting 30+mins for them due to a malfunction with the till system which meant the order didnt reach the kitchen, although a couple of complimentary drinks did the trick.

However, ate there in August with my parents for a "proper" meal and was disappointed with the steak (overdone), and the potatoes (wrong order), although the black pudding starter wasn't bad at all.

I think they do sandwiches and snacks very well but need to make a bit more effort on mains. I hope that as long as people point out where they are getting things wrong then the place will improve.

I give it 7/10 for food, 8.5/10 as a watering hole.

What about the Fox on the Hill near Denmark hill or the Wetherspoons in Forest Hill for your cheap curry and pint combo?

My colleagues are fans of the wetherspoons curry night. I was put off somewhat when i saw it being served from a big plastic bucket, labelled with "chicken madras" or similar.

went a couple of times again over the last week ....really like the new decor and beer garden and the service/food is definitely getting much better .... a new manager (started 3 weeks ago)and new staff seem to be making a big difference .... sunday roast was great last week ... i chatted to the new manager (eddie i think is his name) and he has great plans/ideas for the plough ....well worth chatting to him if you drop in .... hes friendly and really wants to hear peoples views etc

My thoughts exactly Sean, but surely Horse has no connections with the Plough?

Rather than jumping on new posters who may quite honestly be praising a business on their first post and have no connection to anyone working there and they may really be 'very generous with their roast potatoes, I almost couldn't eat the lovely bluebarry cheesecake all washed down with a reasonable Merlot and a cheery wave from the barman' Maybe we should introduce a

forum codeword for suspicious posts.

I suggest 'There's a roach in the pool' Only works if you are a fan of The Day Today though

I'd give the Plough 10/10 for it's booze selection (big fan of speciality beers/ciders), the garden's great, very smoker friendly. However, I've always been let down by the food, so far I have had two overcooked lamb roasts (very chewy!), a gamon sandwich which was supposed to be beef and a very small burger... potato wedges were fine though...

We went back in the Plough yesterday to say thanks to Gene (assistant manager) and the chefs. Gene has been moved on by his area manager to another branch and I can't remember the name of the woman who manages the place. I suggest you pop in and ask one of the bar staff for the duty manager.

Although Gene has gone, it's still the same chefs who cooked up as storm for us. They are very enthusiastic about putting on more events, as I think they enjoy a bit more freedom on menus. Since our christening, they've done some more christenings, a wedding and some funerals - the benefits of being close to two big churches.

And before I get accused again of working there, I don't think they'd take me there given that my experience is more finance than filo.

I was in there for Lunch yesterday and an already good experience was only improved by the playlist which included Rich Hawley and Flaming Lips. I sat there with the sun streaming in thinking just how good this place is

The Sunday Roast is a good one but it's a shame the menu is otherwise limited on Sunday's - one doesn't always feel like having a full roast

We also did the roast beef/lamb at the Plough yesterday - very tasty bit of meat it was too. Conservatory was really sunny as Sean says, and not at all crowded.

Has anyone partaken of their Thursday quiz night? Any good? It's unfortunate that it's such a big space so tends to look a bit empty, but the fewer people there are the easier to win the quiz.

Popped in there for a swift pint after the rubgy on Saturday night on my way to get some celebratory champers and more vino. Very full in there, why weren't they watching the rubgy? Couldn't believe how much it's changed (for the better). I keep meaning to go there more often, must try harder.

Yes! Went last Thursday, and it's good fun. A relatively serious quiz (first round was "Art and Architecture"), but don't be put off, as the range of questions covered most bases. We came 4th out of 7 with only a two person team of me and the missus..

Mos is the official spokesperson but yep - everyone welcome. The standard is reasonably hight but quite competitive!

I went to the quiz in the Gowlett last night and the winning team got every single question right, which is rather suspicious to me. Bastards! We came a fairly respectable but disappointing fourth. Some people take these things far too seriously. Kind of spoils the fun. Might try the quiz in the Plough though sometime soon especially as it's nearer to my end of the Lane.
