PeckhamRose
Crystal Palace was in a place called Upper Sydenham apparently; not Penge. Thanks for completing my list! By your logic, none of us live in London, because there will be a map somewhere showing it. Sorry but post codes are the modern boundaries. SE15 = Peckham. edhistory
PeckhamRose Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Thanks for this. We love our map, but have little> wall space left!In 1865 there was a House of Lords inquiry into the theft of Peckham Rye Common land by the Lord of The Manor. At para 3259 of the minutes is corroboration of the map details.A comparison of the map scan with a modern map shows how much land was stolen, described as "small encroachments" at para 3274.We also have the matter of leaseholders' gravel extraction rights. It's good to get a another confirmation that the Lambeth Group underlies the common and not London Clay.[bTW there is nothing in subsequent legislation to suggest that the leaseholders' mineral rights were extinguished]The matter of the SE15 post code can wait until later.
