DJKillaQueen
Unless you have insurance for accidental damage then it will be you I think. Also worth checking your contents insurance as policies usually cover for accidental damage too .....just check there are no exemptions for mobile phones. Ramble66
Try the market at peckham rye, it will be much cheaper or there are companies you can send the phone to for repair. If you mean who pays between you and your daughter maybe go halves? womanofdulwich
I think it depends on how much money she has!! I work with a 29 year old who has broken his screen twice in 2 years. He can afford to mend it. Maybe you and daughter pay- how much each depend son her spending power and your relationship. Pearson
^ Have a heart you lot!Whatever you do, don't make her pay. That's really tight. I'm sure she didn't mean to break it and at eighteen that sort of money is a very big deal! KidKruger
I think there are kits you can get that have the basic tools and replacement glass, I think they're not too pricey (certainly not ?140). Technically it's maybe not a complex task so perhaps you could check these kits out and fix it for her after buying the kit. Huguenot
Why do you need to replace it? I've got mates who have had broken screens for years... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15300-ethical-dilemma/#findComment-401678 Share on other sites
Marmora Man
This is not an ethical dilemma - it's called parenthood Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/15300-ethical-dilemma/#findComment-401685 Share on other sites
sandyman
Good morning,Thanks for all your replies. The mixed response seems to suggest that there is no right or wrong answer. I guess Marmora Man put their finger on it by saying it's parenthood, but in this case what does parenthood mean? the tough love of teaching them to take responsibilty for their own clumsiness/bad luck or perpetually bailing them out when they get in a fix. Or, maybe, as Huguenot says, tell them to live with it ? get them to learn that life isn't perfect.Anyway, the dilemma was unexpectedly avoided last night. She went to The Apple Store who initially said a replacement would be ?140. When she hesitated they knocked the prices down to ?70. The when she agreed their system went down and they were unable to process it so gave her a free replacement anyway. Conclusion? if you have a Mac problem don't go to your heart-like-a-stone parents, go to apple in Covent Garden and start sobbing. Keef
Why dont you pay for it. But on the condition that she takes out insurance for it, and pays for that each month.
