mockney piers
Picked up a cheap copy of Assassin's Creed II in sainsburys this weekend.I have to say I'm much more impressed than I expected it to be.The acting isn't dreadful, the story is better than the usual fare. The historical context has been well researched, and most important, they really have got the feel right. And having been to Florence a number of times, I actually recognise the place which is amazing and helps for getting from a to b (admittely i did't skip across the rooftops when I was there though)!!Combat is simple yet challenging, and there's actually a bit of bite to the sidequests, like collecting the pigeon feathers to help a mother overcome her grief for a lost child, as opposed to collect a hundred stars because, well because.Gold star to them thar developers (though I could have done without the 'we're a multicultural team of all creeds and faiths' disclaimer every time it loads). Marcus
I really enjoyed the first two Assassin's Creed titles. Great open World feel, although a tad repetitive. The latest has had really good reviews, so I'm sure they've taken it up a few notches. The scenery has always been quite stunning. Might grab that next, although I still haven't got round to Red Dead yet, which is ridiculous.I've been playing Vanquish. Which is really good fun - if you're dumb enough to like running around with big fat awesome weapons, shooting baddie robots etc. Which I do! Keef
I like AC2 too, although it is definitely a game you need to take breaks from. At the moment I'm just being really rubbish at fifa. Started Fallout 3, but realised it might taj over my life like Oblivion, so holding fire on that for a bit. MrTwirly
I can often be seen walking along the dusty roads of Azeroth with my highly polished Boomstick over my shoulder and my Spirit Beast Wolf padding alongside me ;) and when I'm not in WoW.. I'm waiting for pay day to get myself a copy of Portal 2 !! mockney piers
I'm in a self imposed exile from Azeroth, never to return (though I snuck into middle earth a while back). It's not good for the marriage ;) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1522-gaming-room-its-a-geeks-paradise/page/42/#findComment-413170 Share on other sites

I did that. I exiled myself from Azeroth and Outland, boarded a Capsuleer vessel bound for New Eden in EVE, landed on Middle earth for a bit , took off again and went back to my Capsuleer vessel and mined asteroids for a few months, then landed back on Azeroth.. dismantled my ship and became an engineer and have been stuck their since ;) Actually.. MMORPGS are fine for my marriage.. I play while the Mrs does other things and on rare occasions she's been know to suggest I play because she wants to watch Poirot or Morse or something along those lines .. so I'm shipped off to the spare room/office for a couple of hours of shooting things and hitting them with my axe.Like everything else in this world.. everything in moderation is fine. mockney piers
Indeed. To be honest it was endgame that ended it for me. Diping in for a bit of questing or exploration or grinding or farming is fine, maybe meet up up with a mate for an hour of the above. The endgame ruined the fun factor and emant you had to commit to 3-4 hours of an evening and very quickly I just stopped playing. My lotros are currently between about 25 and 45 and I'm just enjoying seeing pretty stuff out of the books. But just not really getting that much gaming time full stop really. iPad probably gets most of my attention as the various tower defence games and angry birds type things are easy to dip in and out of. Marcus
Not strictly thur place but...I have a few PS3 games that I don't play anymore and was wondering if anyone would like to swap a few? Swap fairness could be based roughly on Amazon used prices, or I could sell them if nobody's interested in swapping (assuming someone's interested in buying...) StraferJack
As well as enjoying (nay, loving) Portal 2 I've finally started Dead Space. It doesn't matter that you can see all of the influences within seconds of playing, fact is it ratchets the atmosphere up to 11 and gives me the heebeegeebees(Sega Rally on Arcade this week has been a little gem as well) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1522-gaming-room-its-a-geeks-paradise/page/42/#findComment-437694 Share on other sites
Marcus
Are you talking about the old or the new Dead Space? I've, only played the first - it was genuinely unnerving, but then a little repetitive and I lost interest. Having said that, I do have a remarkably short attention span....I've been playing Red Dead Redemption lately, quite late to the party. I'm quite underwhelmed by the whole experience. Maybe I'm missing something?? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1522-gaming-room-its-a-geeks-paradise/page/42/#findComment-438025 Share on other sites
StraferJack
The old dead space. I had heard about the repetition at the time and that put me off but when I got it cheap I thought it was worth a spinHow far into RDR are you? It does pick up but if I'm honest the setting and atmosphere was enough from the start to make me happy. mockney piers
I got about 70% of the way through dead space before giving up, which is a pity as I wanted to see how the story ended, but I just got bored in the end. Maybe there is an argument for episodic gaming after all ala half life 2. StraferJack
If only that model didn't result in 6 year waits between episodes Still the climax of ep 2 will remain a gaming memory to cherish Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1522-gaming-room-its-a-geeks-paradise/page/42/#findComment-438067 Share on other sites

Floating Onion
MP, I've got it RDR laying around if you want to try it out. I really enjoyed it, but I know plenty of people who didn't.I also worked through Portal 2 & very much enjoyed it. Shame it doesn't have an advanced mode like the first one to go back through some of the chambers. StraferJack
The writing, script and performances in Portal 2 are consistantly great. Quoting isn't an option as it's all spoilerage basically but one section which referenced female French fashion experts had me laughing louder than any tv/film comedy for a long timei believe some DLC is imminent Onion Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1522-gaming-room-its-a-geeks-paradise/page/42/#findComment-438410 Share on other sites
