I agree with you David.

This thread and the BBC horizon one are perfect examples of this. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion and its a public forum blah blah but its gets really tiresome when an opinion/argument is posted ad nauseum on absolutely everything. Don't even mention the poor old Drawing room. Just saying like.

The 'hide' function is good but by its very nature, distorts the conversation flow on a thread.

I've not for a moment suggested that you had advocated anything of the sort have 1? Nor have I entered into a slanging match with anyone on this particular thread. And I've not said I enjoy reading such comments. *sigh* Why is that when someone, no matter who, puts foward a point of view that doesn't square with the views of other posters, you'll always get a response like this. Are you sure its not posts like yours which have contributed to ????'s buggering off? Talk about overly sensitive. Jeez.

Nobody likes to get ripped-off, but I honestly believe the only way to make a living out of music is to is to accept those certain realities which will never change (not for the better anyway), turn any benefits to your advantage - and try not to get so angry about the unfairness of it all that you end-up not being able to string a guitar without wanting to take a can of kerosene and a match to every man, woman and child who owns an iPod.

Which would you prefer: losing 100,000 units to piracy whilst selling 20,000 legitimately - plus achieving some radio play and packing your gigs out?

or

Losing no units to piracy, selling 200, getting no airplay and playing week-in, week-out to a dwindling selection of friends until your audience consists of just you, your girlfriend and the landlord?

An exaggeration clearly, but one to illustrate a valid point.

FFS do me a favour, I can see why ????'s is pissed off.

Rosie H, the world is still full of nice and decent people. One swallow does not a summer make.

Problem with copyright is that there is a massice grey area in the middle of two seemigly absolute views. Be nice if spats in the grey area were conducted with degnity.

Well I would but I'm in the process of mastering it into British Telecom's 1970's Dial-A-Disc format for optimum sound quality

Back in the late '60's a friend of mine wrote a tune on an album, it later appeared in the movie The Gum Ball Rally, he never got paid, more recently, a few years ago they were playing the tune on the system at The Gowlett, I had a cd of the original album in the car outside at that time. the tune they were playing in the Gowlett was by 'The Thievery Corporation' and merely contained a very large sample of the track in question - later this tune was used on as the music to the BBC's Real Hustle programme (along with several others) but the BBC paid The Thievery Corporation ! the orignal writer still hasn't been paid for any of the above - make of it what you will

Kingy isn't going to be happy...

One of these proposals will address limited private copying. As things stand, 90 percent of the country is ? mostly unwittingly ? breaking the law by ripping music files from CDs and copying them to devices such as the iPod. The government said in its response that this situation "brings the law into disrepute".

"It is not appropriate simply to tolerate unlawful private copying where it is not commercially damaging," the government said. It will now not only legalise limited private copying, but also block any attempts in licensing contracts to undermine this new exception.

    • There's been a spate of phone snatching around East Dulwich station and along Lordship Lane. But don't let that put you off the area, these things come and go. I've never had an issue late at night in the areas you talk about and I've been around here for 18yrs (before I moved I had the same concerns as you). Go visit your areas late at night at different times for your own peace of mind (I did)
    • Posted September 20, 202Hello all Hello all Just a quick message to say I've just had a job postponed so I have some time available to do some work for you if you should need a painter around the end of the month. I also do a variety of other jobs too so if anyone needs a handyman, please feel free to get in touch. Happy to do a free quote. Thanks for reading
    • So sorry to hear this. Our bike was stolen from outside Dulwich Library earlier this month. We had a D Lock and they still got through. Probably the same person who’s just cruising up and down the lane. I hope you find it.
    • Hi, I would like to raise some awareness around East Dulwich especially on Lordship lane.  Today my bike electric bike was stolen from in front of my house between the hours of 9:00 and 10:45. If anyone see anything I would be very grateful.  Please do not use a chain lock to lock your bike. Preferably a d-lock. My bike was double locked with two chains and they still manage to take it. Be careful and be aware of Thief.  Here are some pictures of my bike. If you see or hear anything I would really appreciate it.
