I don't know if it is to be encouraged because He is one of my pet hates in the world, but you could just Google a free audio recorder. The software will record any thing going through your sound card. A bit long winded as you can only record in real time, but should work.

Nope just being a decent person and seeing if i can help. If it doesn't get sorted by the end of year i'll buy it for you for chrimbo.:))

Try this, copied from here :

Having just bought a copy of Massive Attack's new CD, I eagerly placed it into my Mac to listen to it. No go. Copy controlled. No problem if you're on a PC - you can fire up the Windows Media Player that's included on the CD. Shame they didn't consider Mac users also buy CD's.

I found that if you get info for the first track on the CD in iTunes, and choose a start time of 0:10 (10 seconds into the first track) it will then happily rip the whole CD. I can live with missing the first ten seconds of a copy controlled CD if it means I don't have to be swapping CD's in and out of my mac if I want to listen to my legally purchased music as I work. That'll teach them for ignoring Mac users!

Alternatively get it copied onto a memory stick by a PC user.

Alternatively, download from any of the peer-to-peer sites.

Yes, this is 'unlawful'.

But you have paid for the damned unusable disc already! Which you should take back to the retailer and demand your money back. Unless more people do this, such daft protection (DRM) will continue.

Write to his fan club. He (and his record company) ought to be ashamed. I bet he has all kinds of stuff on his iPod, ripped from wherever! Write to him. Write to his agent. Write to everybody! Make them uncomfortable in their stupidity.

I confess: I gave evidence about CD copy protection to the All Party Parliamentary Committee on the Internet (APIG) FIVE YEARS ago almost to the week, in writing and in person (with red eye off the New York plane). About just such issues: DRM, user-unfriendliness of same, complete lack of info on the product about DRM. And we are still getting this crap. It has to stop. But it only will if consumers rebel.

Please rebel!

Me? I absolutely refuse to buy anything from any label employing DRM. All my music is streamed wirelessly via hi-quality FLAC lossless, ripped from my thousands of CDs, and DRM CDs are about as much use to me as cardboard coasters. I almost exclusively buy from small/indie labels these days (most of them UK).

I don't understand the claw hammer thing?

Regardless of indignation, when you buy a CD you do just that. Unless there is explicit permission to reproduce on other systems you have no legal right to.

People tend to think they've bought the music, which they haven't - most people wouldn't assume they've bought a public entertainment license after all!

It may well be ridiculous, but this doesn't give anyone the right to break those laws. The correct way to address this is through lobbying and legislation.

Louisiana may only use her music for personal consumption on different devices, but the vast majority of unprotected music is duplicated for illegal distribution. The artists, the actors and their support teams and investors don't get the rewards to which they bre entitled. It's simply stealing. The result will be a poorer experience for all.

From what I can tell, the OP owns the CD in question and isn?t thieving anything ? she even suggested she would legally download the album again but it isn?t available ? seems fair to me

Putting copy protection on CDs was one of the reasons the music business found itself in such deep waters ? treating your PAYING customers like criminals is never a smart move. Pirates find the protection no barrier whatsoever and will distribute the thousands of copies they would anyway, whilst someone who stumped up up to ?15 (ah the good old days) in Virgin or Tower suddenly found that they couldn?t play the CD in some of their CD players

See also DVDs which make you sit through endless warning screens whih can?t be skipped ? thanks but I?ve paid my money can I skip this now? If I went the route of piracy at least I wouldn?t have to sit through this bobbins

1) Copyright infringement is not 'theft'. Don't believe all the scary ads.

2) If you read the post properly you'll see she has bought the CD and wants to be able to play the damn thing. Since copy protection is not part of the Compact Disc standard, I would say she has been mis-sold a 'CD' by the record company - it's technically not one. That's not theft either, though, it's fraud.

3) It's not killing music anyway, music sales are on a high and climbing at the moment.

Actually Kingy, if you read my posts, you'd see that I've bought the bloody CD twice. And as Sean rightly says, I would gladly pay to download it, but it isn't available to download.

I want to be able to listen to it on my ipod is all. I don't illegally download music or films, not because I'm a goody two shoes, but because I believe in paying for something that someone has produced. So frankly, you can take your "thievery" and you can shove it up your arse.

AND FLICK YOU TOO - If you bought the damn thing and can't play it then take it back - if they've sold it to you copy protected then they don't want you to copy it - simple as that - any breach of the terms under which it was sold is thievery in my book - oh ! music sales are up are they ? is that why HMV is closing 30 shops, Virgin and Our Price are gone etc etc etc

1. Get a CD and place in quality stereo.

2. Set up laptop to record through a quality microphone. Place mic 6 feet from stereo speakers.

3. Do some test playing of offending CD, to set recording / playback levels.

4. Play CD and record to laptop. You can do this a track at a time to create seperate files, or record entire CD in one go then chop up sound file into seperate files.

5. Load file(s) into iTunes/iPod.

6. Listen and enjoy !

Work with what you've got. Just like when we were kids.

*This information should not be used to pirate commercially available music media, it is a speculative suggestion for use on only one's own productions/material*

you have basic consumer rights if you have bought it and it wasn't labelled correctly as copy protected, or rather you should have basic consumer rights to copy it for your own personal use - if it's labelled as copy protected then it's a gray area - perhaps the artist does not want the work to be be reproduced on crappy mp3 compressed quality and has such has a right for it not to be released in that format - personally I listen to vinyl at home, and cd's in the car I wouldn't bother with an mp3 or an i-pod - as it stands if it isn't labelled 'copy protected' then take it back - if it is labelled and you want to copy it you're gonna have to get a pressure group and try to change the law. The artist or record company has every right to copy protect their cd's as long as you are informed that they are copy protected - my own view is that it's not the copy protected cd's that are stupid but the people who want to listed to them on mp3 format - btw Rosie H apparently my arse is so full of crap it would be difficult to get a copy protected cd up there

    • There's been a spate of phone snatching around East Dulwich station and along Lordship Lane. But don't let that put you off the area, these things come and go. I've never had an issue late at night in the areas you talk about and I've been around here for 18yrs (before I moved I had the same concerns as you). Go visit your areas late at night at different times for your own peace of mind (I did)
    • Posted September 20, 202Hello all Hello all Just a quick message to say I've just had a job postponed so I have some time available to do some work for you if you should need a painter around the end of the month. I also do a variety of other jobs too so if anyone needs a handyman, please feel free to get in touch. Happy to do a free quote. Thanks for reading
    • So sorry to hear this. Our bike was stolen from outside Dulwich Library earlier this month. We had a D Lock and they still got through. Probably the same person who’s just cruising up and down the lane. I hope you find it.
    • Hi, I would like to raise some awareness around East Dulwich especially on Lordship lane.  Today my bike electric bike was stolen from in front of my house between the hours of 9:00 and 10:45. If anyone see anything I would be very grateful.  Please do not use a chain lock to lock your bike. Preferably a d-lock. My bike was double locked with two chains and they still manage to take it. Be careful and be aware of Thief.  Here are some pictures of my bike. If you see or hear anything I would really appreciate it.
