Cycle to Work specials April 26th: with prizes :)

Recommended Posts

Southwark Cyclists is running a Cycle to Work (Cycle2Work ? C2W) day on April 26th 2017. We want more people who work in Southwark to cycle to work, cutting pollution for those who live here and clearing the roads for essential journeys.

On the great day there will be three key activities. Two Bike Trains instead of one in the morning and a Dr Bike in the evening.

One Bike Train is the usual one from Nunhead to Blackfriars. It will be leaving at the slightly later time of 7.50am, calling at Peckham Rye Statin (from the bike stands behind McDonalds) and arriving at Blackfriars around 8.40am.

The this-day-only one goes from North Dulwich through Denmark Hill to London Bridge. Again leaving North Dulwich 7.50am and arriving at London Bridge at the St Thomas' Street entrance around 8.40am. Meet us at the junction of Townley Road and Greendale at 07.50am. We pass through Denmark Hill Station on our way so to be picked up there text Liz Eden on 07814 515 715.

If you want to practice the route on a day off, some lovely people have written a local history guide which is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/all-you-ever-wanted-to-know-about-the-bike-train-route/. (If you practice the route on foot, we won?t mind!)The route of both rides is here:

And Dr Bike will be fixing bikes in Tooley Street, (next to the London Bridge Experience), on the great day. He will be there from 17.30 to 19.30 light and weather permitting. If you miss him on the 26th don't worry. He will be back every month through the summer until the weather gets too cold. He's coming on: 24th May, 28th June, 26th July, 23rd August, 27th September

Southwark Council, Better Bankside and Team London Bridge are encouraging their staff to take part so if you work for any of them you should know all about it. I know I mentioned prizes in the title and I shall do some more research to find out more about them. Watch this space (and get your bike ready)

More info on the virtues of cycling and links here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/cycle2work/. Also you can contact me or the co-ordinator Andy Cawdell (who is running the whole thing) on southwark at lcc.org.uk. (substitute @ for the at to make it work) or text Sally on 07842 640 207.

There was no info in my previous email about the prizes because I didn't know anything about them.

I'm now told they are Jeremy Deller t-shirts. Jeremy Deller is a reasonable famous artist whose website http://jeremydeller.org describes him as a "British artist known for works on political and social themes."

so roll up and claim yours -- or alternatively just cycle to work with us. Cycling makes you happy, keeps you healthy, and costs nothing.

    • Hello Megalaki84 ,   have you spoken to the restaurant about this the restaurant has never had this issue occur especially with 3 people at the same time i would be keen to see a health report based on this also if you can tell me date time you had come in and i can investigate this on your behalf as we have cameras in the kitchen to inspect our staff , our products are all labelled and thrown if out of date products especially when we have just recently been inspected by health and safety and have had 5 star rated.   i am not disputing that you have had food poisoning but its very unlikely this had been from us however i will be investigating this as a matter of duty as this is the last thing we want.   we have had thousands of customers and have no issues please feel free to direct message me details.   thanks, hakeem Thank you very much 🙏 Thank you for this sue i couldn’t agree with this more we make sure we have no out of date products and make sure we have a clean kitchen and front house to avoid any issues.
    • I agree on this point. I live in a one bedroom ground floor flat with a 2/3 bed flat above, should they build into the loft the negative impact below would be huge. Plus there is already only space (within the garden which is covered by the ground floor lease) for one wheelie bin per flat so unless Southwark decide to allow bins out on the pavements I am not sure where the additional waste produced by more residents will go! There are many things to consider when it comes to deciding on whether to grant planning permission that Southwark have never taken into account, hence the situation I guess they are in now.  From my point of view when part of the property is shared or owned by the freeholder in the case of flats I think the impact of extending, impact on any communal areas, space for bins etc should be taken into account. Every property is different so each case should be looked at differently. Look at some of the house being converted into 3 flats, they look very smart but now the tiny front gardens are full of bins, rubbish and bike sheds that must impact on the ground floor. Personally the appeal of living in a converted Victorian terrace dwindles when they become so small and crammed into a tiny house, might as well live in a purpose built block!
    • Hi all, We've just moved and I'm looking for a chest of drawers for the bedroom if anyone is getting rid of theirs?  Thanks,  Anya
    • Hello, After finding Lukas at L and L Building and Maintenance on this website I wanted to pay it forward and confirm him and his team definitely lived up to the positive reviews. Lukas and his team were extremely diligent with great attention to detail, and nothing that came up during the process was too much trouble for them. The team were very polite and great to have in the house as we were there alongside work being done. Any changes that came up were dealt with easily without any drama. We had a new bathroom and refurbished front of house including new steps etc, and a new loft hatch / boarding. Everything looks great and we are very happy - will 100% go to Lukas in the future for any other work will need and have been recommending to all of our friends.
