A quick check shows that JFK actually got it right. Here is the excerpt from Wiki...

Quote.....

There is a widespread misconception, but only outside of German-speaking countries, that Kennedy made an embarrassing mistake by saying Ich bin ein Berliner. By not leaving out the indefinite article "ein," he supposedly changed the meaning of the sentence from the intended "I am a citizen of Berlin" to "I am a Berliner" (a Berliner being a type of German pastry, similar to a jelly doughnut).

The indefinite article is frequently[10] omitted in German when speaking of an individual's profession or residence but is in any case used when speaking in a figurative sense. Since the President was not literally from Berlin but declaring his solidarity with its citizens, "Ich bin ein Berliner" was the only way to express what he wanted to say.[11][12]

Furthermore, although the word "Berliner"[9][13] is used for a jelly doughnut in the north, west and southwest of Germany, it is not used in Berlin itself or the surrounding region, where the usual word is "Pfannkuchen."

A further part of the misconception is that the audience to his speech laughed at his supposed error. They instead cheered and applauded both times the phrase was used. They laughed and cheered a few seconds after the first use of the phrase, only when the president made an intentional joke. Poking fun at his own pronunciation of the phrase, he said, "I appreciate my interpreter translating my German!"

According to R4 exit polls suggest Cons losing majority though still with largest number of seats, and distribution of seats making it difficult to see how a coalition could be formed. Not sure where that would leave us.

That said, my memory of the last election and the Brexit referendum is that the final result was the opposite of how it looked at this stage, so who knows.

With Sinn F?in abstaining & the Speaker + assistants not voting then the practical majority is 321

650 - (6+3) = 641

641/2 = 320.5 [321] - will still be a very close call but Thearse May will be dumperd....

YouGov model of poll is closest to the Exit Poll

Conserv 302

Labour 269

LibDem 12

SNP 44 - got Scotland wrong (?)

Highly likely Vince Cable will be new PM of centre ground. That is my prediction (although I would prefer Clarke, or Clegg). Then 'Brexit' will happen only in name - single market and customs unions and free-movement and everything else of value will be preserved.

Oh happy day.

Either way Rendel, May's position is looking increasingly untenable*. She hasn't got the so-called mandate she wanted for Brexit negotiations, the supposed reason the election was called in the first place. For someone who didn't want May or Corbyn to win this is probably the perfect result, plus the possibility of Brexit being overturned...

Are you a blue badge holder? you can apply for the AD Permit, a virtual payment which allows disabled drivers to part on single and double yellow lines without the need of displaying a blue bae in the windscreen. there is also information for disabled residents to use the Low Traffic Neighborhood (LTNs) around the borough.  Exemptions for Blue Badge holders | Southwark Council Want more information? use the councils website: www.southwark.gov.uk
    • I am about to tomorrow. I only just realised after asking some neighbours today. Agreed that smaller households should of course pay less, like discounted council tax bills for those on benefits for example. However as our bills have gone up astronomically generally in the last few years, I do feel hardworking families are being penalised... also avid gardeners will be penalised in the summer when gardens are watered no doubt.
    • Hello Womanofdulwich, I had a meter installed in the summer of last year. Currently my bills have fallen massively. Can you remember which month your water meter was installed? Also I received two appointments, one from a group of staff in orange who decide if the property is suitable for the water meter, and then a second appointment for the meter to be installed, did you have the same thing? Are you saying as well that you was cold called regarding the water meter, or are you saying someone from Thames water turned up, at your door unannoyed?   Lastly (so sorry to through so much questions at you) how many bedrooms do you have and how many people live at the property?
