Laptop help and advice and service recommendation please

Toshiba Windows Laptop running painfully slow and noisily. Something rattling inside too! The noisy fan starts too soon and it gets horribly hot (sat on a tray, not material/soft furnishings; I try and keep it as dust free as possible).

I think it needs a service, and I do not want or need to upgrade/replace it, so any reliable recommendations locally would be gratefully received. Please list prices with your replies.

Thanks.

Hello!

Hot computers run slower, removing dust is a chore as laptops are not designed to pulled apart, You can try blowing out the dust with a can of compressed air, if you have a access point to the fan place a small screwdriver to stop it spinning, remove all panels on the rear and remove the dust.

As for the rattling, maybe when you taken off the panels and shook the laptop around a bit the loose part might drop out? A bit of a worry as a screw or whatever is rattling could potentially short-circuit something on the motherboard.

Good luck!

I didn't have a great experience at Netquest (tried to get some photos from a virus ridden PC, was told he'd call me either way after initial try), after I'd paid part I heard nothing (tho he reduced the fee as unsuccessful)... Have heard good things otherwise but I won't be back.

Hello! If you are running either Windows 7, 8, or 10 simply hit the windows key and start typing troubleshoot when the results appear click on troubleshoot network, windows will diagnose your settings stop and restart associated services and it should resolve or flag up what's wrong!

Christian has kindly given me (and a friend who was repairing my laptop) advice without either charging or suggesting that I take it to him for repair.

ETA: Please though if you can afford it pay for him to repair it, or his kindness will put him out of business :(

    • it would seem very likely that they are trying it on if it their area - ie not a responsibility of the freehold. The freehold would cover the building structure (walls, foundation, roof) - possibly freeholder would have responsibility for the front door - if so, does the freeholder have the windows? Usually grey area in a lease so you could look at past instances - who has paid for window replacement, front door to be painted etc?
    • Thanks for these comments. Very helpful. The porch and hallway shows on their lease plan but we share the freehold together.
    • Ok.  You have bigger problems than this s20 notice.  How have you let one freeholder dominate things.  You both have the equal right to decide how to manage the communal areas of the property.  I would get some legal advice on your duties and rights as a freeholder and then request a meeting  to reset the relationship. Also as noted in other posts is the front yard and door actually the responsibility of the freeholder.  These are all questions you should ask in your S20 response.
    • seems perfectly sensible to restrict cert 18 but would have thought cert 15 are acceptable. we don't know what the complaint was or if the measures taken by the cinema address it or go too far. if there was a scenario when an infant was in a regular screening, then I would completely understand the complaint. if the complaint was from someone who attended a parent screening, then - well, I guess it depends what was on! if the complaint was from someone who has not involvement or experience then the cinema surely wouldn't have taken measures based  on it
