Simonet
A genuine successor to French and Saunders/Catherine Tate and going right back to Joycw Grenfell.Miranda is a terrific Clown in the happy and comedic sense who is not afraid to take risks and make herself appear foolish, which she is, obviously, far from.Great timing. marvellous "confidences" to the viewer/audience and plays her part in her feature series at just the right pitch. Her performances with the excellent Pamela Hodge are worth watching for alone. If these 2 don't win awards for the current series I will be amazed. She also seems a genuinely pleasant and decent person. Very likeable.I'm pleased as well, as all my funniest people have been Male for Decades from Peter Sellers to Leonard Rossiter to The Pythons to The Blackadder Boys to Steve Coogan alongside Tommy Cooper, Morecambe and Wise, Bob Monkhouse, Paul Merton, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie and more latterly Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant and if I cate to think about it probably many others.Miranda-"Such Fun"..>:D< Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14897-miranda-hart-superb-comedienne/ Share on other sites

SeanMacGabhann
Rosieh has it. The woman herself seems so likeable that people seem too willing to overlook the paucity of materialI reckon she has better in her and praising her for this just means we will never see it Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14897-miranda-hart-superb-comedienne/#findComment-393542 Share on other sites
Narnia
Utter bobbins...........great sounding expression. What does it mean/where does it come from? RosieH
Dunno Narnia - am a Lancashire lass, and we had a lot of bobbins in our neck of the woods back in the day, what with t'mills and all. No idea how it came to mean a bit rubbish though. And yes Sean, you're right, she is tremendously likeable, and very happy to poke fun at herself, and seems intelligent - all admirable qualities. But I've watched two episodes of this now, and didn't laugh once. Nero
I am a big fan and laugh like a drain when she is on. It is embarrassing for all around when I watch it on a plane, with headphones on, because I can't help but roll back my head, hit the armrest heavily with my palm and repeat the punchline whilst snorting loudly. More please! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14897-miranda-hart-superb-comedienne/#findComment-393555 Share on other sites

There are a lot of people I don't find likeBLE David Mitchell for instance who I think is a little smug twat , and seems to be beeming up at at you every time you pick up a copy of the fuckin observer these days Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14897-miranda-hart-superb-comedienne/#findComment-393620 Share on other sites

RosieH
Hmm Huguenot, I'm unconvinced, having never once heard anyone in Manchester use rhyming slang (and rotten seems a bit harsh for the way bobbins is employed).Just did an internet trawl and the suggestion arose that 'there were nowt left but bobbins' could be the cause. I like that more. Only the rubbish left, none of the thread. Nice.Edited for forgetting the ion in suggestion. Huguenot
Ah indeed, just the bobbin left, because everything of value had been removed. Very good. siousxiesue
Have to say I hate the word 'comedienne' as much as 'manageress' both defunct, surely she's just a comedian?? mockney piers
Gosh how very Orwellian of you siousxie.Go the whole hog and deprecate 'she' whilst you're at it.Ive seen this person interviewed and find them intelligent, charming and self deprecating. The sitcom in question is a perfect example of the sort of mediocre comedy this country manages to produce in bucket loads, and I want to hate it, but having caught it a couple of times,it is SO ridiculously daft and puerile i do chuckle away at it. I guess it must have managed to inject it with a certain infectiousness that works. SeanMacGabhann
I dunno, I imagine a poet of any gender would rather have a few spare words in their vocabIf I?m looking for a word to rhyme with Dungeness.. RosieH
Sean, if you're looking for a word to rhyme with 'Dungeness', you'd go with 'comedienne'? Laureates of England, lock up your quills, MacGabhann's a'comin'..!And David, yes we can. siousxiesue
Anything that adds 'ess' or ett/e' to a word unnecessarily is my bugbear, as is 'lady doctor' lady driver'! david_carnell
Not wishing to diverge entirely from the subject in hand, but feminists of the EDF.....is this really what gets your goat?Is it such a crime to differentiate the sexes through grammar? Our continental friends seem to do it no end to no ill effect. Germany makes train stations male yet still has a female head of state.....how do they do it? Probably by worrying about something important I would imagine.
