Hello All, A number of householders in ED and surrounding areas would have been chosen as the sample to complete the test census currently being rolled out.

If you have been a lucky householder chosen, remember to complete your questionnaire online ASAP. For those struggling, Census Officers will be hitting ED at the end of next week, to provide support and information.

Hello dbboy,

The test census 2017 is part of the preparations for the 2021 census. It will give the Office National Statistics (ONS) a chance to test new systems and services, as well as try out new additional questions.

100,000 households have been randomly selected across 7 areas in England and wales to fill in the test questionnaire online. The Area of Southwark is one of them.

A further 108, 000 householders across the rest of England and wales are also involved, with a combination of paper questionnaire or instructions to go online, although any of the households can complete online.

Hello dbboy,

I guess "tests" are carried out to find out alternately if changes will affect response rates. So a number of things are included in the test, with the obvious trying to encourage households to complete there questionnaires only online. The ONS are also exploring additional questions, and testing the wording of different "sorry you was not in" cards. I guess it is like a dress rehearsal for the real thing, when the entire country are expected to participate.

    • A beer in the garden would have been nice, I'm sure! Mine was a meal inside. I don't remember much about it except that it was horrible.
    • Went to the Harvester a couple of times to have a beer in the garden, it was quite popular and had a 'certain' charm.
    • I never went in The Grove when it was a pub, but I had a meal there once when it was a Harvester (I used to occasionally be a Mystery Shopper, and I was persuaded to go and have this meal because it was a bank holiday and they couldn't find anyone else to do it.) It was truly horrible. At least I got paid for eating it, albeit not very much, but I think I would have paid not to have to eat it. If it becomes an "affordable" restaurant again, I hope at least it has decent food. Why do "these youngsters" need "adult help" to be enterprising? They aren't six year olds!
    • At the end of the day, whilst these youngsters have been enterprising presumably with adult help & I also assume no local youth group - the fact remains that it is a prime site fir redevelopment be it a supermarket - Aldi, Lidel whatever or social housing which, let’s be honest here lots  of people need.   Know Idea why has been derelict gor do long anyhow, but somewhere on this site I think there is a problem with who owns it. And let’s not forget the homeless man who slept there - Front on Lordship Lane who had his home destroyed by I assume vandals a couple of years ago.
