Marmora Man
For1. Great views across London from the heights2. No Starbucks3. Great Victorian housing stock - that will still be standing in another 100 years.4. Open spaces - Peckham Rye, Dulwich Park, Goose Green5. A non Identikit high street - apart from banks very few standard high street names.Against1. bawdy-nan
1. It hasn't got a starbucks2. It has good schools and childcare3. There are great independent shops (and a nearby supermarket for the massive things)4. Lots of green spaces (including the marvellous Duwich Woods)5. The transports a bit ropey (sounds bad but actually means you're encouraged to cycle and the residents ahve learned to make their own fun)Bad: Its bloody pricey Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1478-give-me-5-good-reasons-why-i-should-move-to-ed/#findComment-40299 Share on other sites

Keef
1 The Public Bar at the CPT2 The Lounge Bar at the CPT3 The various other drinking establishments on the main road4 Seems a great place to raise a family, and you'll have no shortage of peers in that department5 Good kebab shops for late night drunken munchies (God I didn't think it would be this hard to think of 5 god reasons).AgainstYou'll get more for your money in a surrounding area (see thread New East Dulwich) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1478-give-me-5-good-reasons-why-i-should-move-to-ed/#findComment-40306 Share on other sites
Alan Dale
For1. It's close to the bars and pubs of Camberwell2. It's close to the 'funky' Bellenden area of Peckham3. It's handy for Dulwich Village4. It's within reach of Brockwell Park and the Lido5. It's near to Peckham Rye ParkAgainstIt's slightly further out and less well connected than it's marginally cheaper, significantly cooler neighbours in Camberwell and Peckham. Nero
1 The buses to town go past Jenny Eclair's posh house. 2 The ?11 sandwich.3 You might see Moncica Ali sitting in exactly the same pose as her publicity shot at Tandoori Nights. 4 Moo 3 could be a real possibility. 5 Jacks cafe is open at least some of the time. Louisa
1. Some of the lovliest people on earth2. The suburban semi-rural feel to a place so central to the heart of London.3. Reaonable transport links into and out of London.4. A fairly low crime rate comparble to most other parts of inner London.5. The wonderful hot climate! *Bob*
1. You'll be safe in the knowledge that a frilly cushion, a twee breadbin or a jar of jam for ?5 is never more than a few minutes away.2. You can save yourself the pain of buying in Nunhead, Camberwell, Brockley and spending the next ten years twiddling your thumbs waiting for something.. anything.. to happen. 3. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that your moving to ED is helping to keep those all-important house prices on that ever-upward trend.4. You can finally put to bed those foolish thoughts of being able to afford some nice to live which also has good transport links.5. When people ask where you live, you can simply say 'Dulwich'. They'll never know. Against? You might win the lottery and then you'll have to move again. mockney piers
I'm sure santa sangre was asking for genuine opinions, not for you lot to parody yourselves people.1. Community (despite occasional appearances to the contrary)2. Proximity to the centre (zone 2 and good transport links if you ignore the tube)3. Proximity to lots of green stuff.4. Pubs, Bars and food. (not the best area in london, far from being the worst with a good range of options, both in eating and in drinking tastes5. It's Safe.Against1. Overpriced. Alan may have an issue with ED, but that doesn't make him wrong; surrounding neighbourhoods are better value and have their own charms (and pitfalls) but well worth considering. Ted Max
Nothing wrong with a place being useful for being near to other places. Othewise what is the whole of Staffordshire for?Anyway. For.1. The people are great. No, really. And they come in all different shapes and sizes, despiteappearance of increasing homogeneity. So there will be something/ body there for you2. Life seems more chilled than in other neighbouring areas3. Council makes an effort re rubbish collection, street cleaners/ furniture, community events, funding etc4. The great sense of smugness and well being you will feel at living here5.And yes, it's close to lots of other good places - esp for the cultural and entertainments stuff that ED lacks.Against:1.The East Dulwich Bulge - proven effect on the waistline of so many good places to eat and buy delicious food and drink.2. Position in a depression beneath Denmark, Red Post, and Forest Hills leaves us strategically vulnerable to attack. Border defences are required. *Bob*
Santasangre... seeing as this forum is mainly comprised of people who either already live in ED (or wish they did), it would be interesting to hear from a 'potential' incomer for a change. Where are you coming from? What have you heard? What is your perception of SE22? Brendan
For- It does not have very good transport links and therefore has its own unique character and sense of community and will not become a facsimile of other areas (eg. Clapham or the ?C? word as it is known on here). It is also mercifully being missed by the imminent extension to the East London Line. AB
Actually, it has very good transport links - but only if you live close to the station, 13 minutes to London Bridge on an overland train and a 5 minute walk to the city ain't nowt to grumble about. Agreed that parts of ED are amongst the worst served in London though, and this is reflected in housing costs.
