I do hope that was tongue in cheek downsouth...

For

1 - Green spaces everywhere

2 - but a bustling main drag of bars and restaurants

3 - 11 ins from the City by train

4 - real sens of cimmunity

5 - you get to meet the people behind the names on this forum

Against

1- Not the prettiest of places

For

1. Great views across London from the heights

2. No Starbucks

3. Great Victorian housing stock - that will still be standing in another 100 years.

4. Open spaces - Peckham Rye, Dulwich Park, Goose Green

5. A non Identikit high street - apart from banks very few standard high street names.

Against

1. Nero's has moved in

1. It hasn't got a starbucks

2. It has good schools and childcare

3. There are great independent shops (and a nearby supermarket for the massive things)

4. Lots of green spaces (including the marvellous Duwich Woods)

5. The transports a bit ropey (sounds bad but actually means you're encouraged to cycle and the residents ahve learned to make their own fun)

Bad: Its bloody pricey

1 The Public Bar at the CPT

2 The Lounge Bar at the CPT

3 The various other drinking establishments on the main road

4 Seems a great place to raise a family, and you'll have no shortage of peers in that department

5 Good kebab shops for late night drunken munchies (God I didn't think it would be this hard to think of 5 god reasons).

Against

You'll get more for your money in a surrounding area (see thread New East Dulwich)

For

1. It's close to the bars and pubs of Camberwell

2. It's close to the 'funky' Bellenden area of Peckham

3. It's handy for Dulwich Village

4. It's within reach of Brockwell Park and the Lido

5. It's near to Peckham Rye Park

Against

It's slightly further out and less well connected than it's marginally cheaper, significantly cooler neighbours in Camberwell and Peckham.

Well, have you submitted your application to live here?

We have strict controls you know, not just letting any riff-raff in.

Give us 5 reasons why you think you're worthy.... ;-)

1 The buses to town go past Jenny Eclair's posh house.

2 The ?11 sandwich.

3 You might see Moncica Ali sitting in exactly the same pose as her publicity shot at Tandoori Nights.

4 Moo 3 could be a real possibility.

5 Jacks cafe is open at least some of the time.

Against

1 You could get adddicted to the EDF.

Primary yes but what about secondary schools especially for Boys - Charter is the only one and the places are VERY limited

Nunhead is better - closer to Askes!

1. Some of the lovliest people on earth

2. The suburban semi-rural feel to a place so central to the heart of London.

3. Reaonable transport links into and out of London.

4. A fairly low crime rate comparble to most other parts of inner London.

5. The wonderful hot climate!

Louisa :)

Good point! So that's 6 reasons for and non against - come on down!

1. You'll be safe in the knowledge that a frilly cushion, a twee breadbin or a jar of jam for ?5 is never more than a few minutes away.

2. You can save yourself the pain of buying in Nunhead, Camberwell, Brockley and spending the next ten years twiddling your thumbs waiting for something.. anything.. to happen.

3. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that your moving to ED is helping to keep those all-important house prices on that ever-upward trend.

4. You can finally put to bed those foolish thoughts of being able to afford some nice to live which also has good transport links.

5. When people ask where you live, you can simply say 'Dulwich'. They'll never know.

Against? You might win the lottery and then you'll have to move again.

I'm sure santa sangre was asking for genuine opinions, not for you lot to parody yourselves people.

1. Community (despite occasional appearances to the contrary)

2. Proximity to the centre (zone 2 and good transport links if you ignore the tube)

3. Proximity to lots of green stuff.

4. Pubs, Bars and food. (not the best area in london, far from being the worst with a good range of options, both in eating and in drinking tastes

5. It's Safe.

Against

1. Overpriced. Alan may have an issue with ED, but that doesn't make him wrong; surrounding neighbourhoods are better value and have their own charms (and pitfalls) but well worth considering.

Nothing wrong with a place being useful for being near to other places. Othewise what is the whole of Staffordshire for?

Anyway. For.

1. The people are great. No, really. And they come in all different shapes and sizes, despiteappearance of increasing homogeneity. So there will be something/ body there for you

2. Life seems more chilled than in other neighbouring areas

3. Council makes an effort re rubbish collection, street cleaners/ furniture, community events, funding etc

4. The great sense of smugness and well being you will feel at living here

5.And yes, it's close to lots of other good places - esp for the cultural and entertainments stuff that ED lacks.

Against:

1.The East Dulwich Bulge - proven effect on the waistline of so many good places to eat and buy delicious food and drink.

2. Position in a depression beneath Denmark, Red Post, and Forest Hills leaves us strategically vulnerable to attack. Border defences are required.

Santasangre... seeing as this forum is mainly comprised of people who either already live in ED (or wish they did), it would be interesting to hear from a 'potential' incomer for a change.

Where are you coming from? What have you heard? What is your perception of SE22?

ROTFLMAO...and coffee up my nose now.....

(Note to self don't read and drink at same time...)

Glad to hear it (the no issues, not the house price stuff)

Yep ED Bulge syndrome is taking hold. Gah!

For

- It does not have very good transport links and therefore has its own unique character and sense of community and will not become a facsimile of other areas (eg. Clapham or the ?C? word as it is known on here). It is also mercifully being missed by the imminent extension to the East London Line.

Actually, it has very good transport links - but only if you live close to the station, 13 minutes to London Bridge on an overland train and a 5 minute walk to the city ain't nowt to grumble about. Agreed that parts of ED are amongst the worst served in London though, and this is reflected in housing costs.

    • The top front tooth has popped out.  Attempted to fix myself with repair kit bought from Boots, unfortunately it didn’t last long.  Tooth has popped out again.  Unable to get to dentist as housebound but family member can drop off.  I tried dental practice I found online, which is near Goose Green, but the number is disconnected.   The new dental practice in FH (where Barclays used to be) said it’s not something they do.  Seen a mobile dental practice where a technician comes to your home and does the repair but I’m worried about the cost. Any suggestions please? Thank you
    • So its OK for Starmer to earn £74K/annum by renting out a property, cat calling the kettle black....... Their gravy train trundles on. When the Southport story that involves Starmer finally comes out, he's going to be gone, plus that and the local elections in May 2025 when Liebour will get a drumming. Even his own MP's have had enough of the mess they've made of things in the first three months of being in power. They had fourteen years to plan for this, what a mess they've created so quickly, couldn't plan there way out of a paper bag.   Suggest you do the sums, the minimum wage won't  be so minimum when it is introduced, that and the increase in employers national insurance contributions is why so many employers are talking about reducing their cohort of employees and closing shops and businesses.  Businesses don't run at a loss and when they do they close, its the only option for them, you can only absorb a loss for so long before brining the shutters down and closing the doors. Some people are so blinkered they think the sun shines out of the three stooges, you need to wake up soon. Because wait till there are food shortages, no bread or fresh vegetables, nor meat in the shops, bare shelves in the supermarkets because the farmers will make it happen, plus prices spiralling out of control as a result of a supply and demand market. Every ones going to get on the gravy train and put their prices up, It happened before during lockdown, nothing to stop it happening again. You don't shoot the hand that feeds you. Then you'll see people getting angry and an uprising start to happen.  Hungry people become angry people very quickly.
    • Eh? Straight ahead of what?  If you turn left at Goose Green, as you also posted above, you end up at the library. Then the Grove. Then, unless you turn right at the South Circular, you end up at Forest Hill!
    • yes I’ve spotted this too — it’s near me and I’m very intrigued to see what it’ll be 👀👀👀👀
