Not in mine. You appear to see everything as being either black or white Quids. The real question is, is violence ever justified to achieve a goal? Without it there would be no Republic of Ireland now, for example. Depending on the circumstances I would say it probably is. The killing of civilians is another matter.

To be sorry for victims of a crime is to be human. To praise someone who ultimately helped bring about 'peace' of a sort is not being hypocritical. How many more lives would have been lost by now if MMcG didn't choose to assist in the peace process?

In the spirit of taking something positive out of this, a thank you to the police and emergency services. Truly awesome people.

And a hat tip to that Tory MP. I would like to hope that, in the same situation, I'd react in the same way but who knows until it actually happens.

That's not necessarily fair. Those in Parliament were given instructions by the police and security forces ? I know, as I had a friend there. Similarly, I thought it was cheap point-scoring for some to point out (on social meeja, natch) that the PM was whisked away as if this showed some sort of cowardice rather than it being a crucial security matter for the head of government to be protected from danger.

Yeah, MPs inside the Palace of Westminster wouldn't have been helping anyone if they'd all started running outside in a misguided attempt to be heroic

The question was asked in relation to MM's comment I extend that to all innocent victims of terrorism.

Along with the British Army, British politicians, the Royal family etc, the IRA saw the police as legitimate targets, so I wanted to know if he felt that a policemen murdered by Republican terrorists during The Troubles should be classed as an innocent victim or not...

    • I will go to both Health Matters and H&B! I already buy a lot online from H&B in their sales,  - when they  have excellent bargains  for things like 3 for 2  large bags of nuts (which I freeze), and   so it's one high street store I'm pleased to see on Lordship Lane (apart from their weird array of sports stuff and "snacks" with sugar in). I can't say the same for Oliver Bonas, but then I doubt I am their target market 😂
