PeckhamRose
Just a heads up that Co-op Forst Hill Road seems to be running out of fresh food, so if you are on your way up the hill, buy from Tescos or Sainsburys further down toward Peckham or elsewhere. They said today's delivery had been cancelled as well as yesterdays. My parents live in a small estate in Margate which has a co-op in the middle of it, and they have not had any deliveries for 4 days, and the elderly folk who live on the snowed in estate can't get anywhere else to get their food. Great Britain, 2010. Amazin' eh! Anyway, just wanted to alert you all in case you were planning on getting your supplies on the way home. Is the big Co-op on Lordship Lane getting supplies?Edited for clarity of title. SeanMacGabhann
I think lots of people have read the thread because the title isn't explicit enough Having realised it's about fresh food at that coop many people would have been surprised such a thing exists, and how would they know a shortage existed Then they would have gone about buying food wherever they normally buy it Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14638-co-operative-foresthillroad-out-of-fresh-food/#findComment-389500 Share on other sites
pablogrande
I see the government are temporarily relaxing the rules on the maximum number of hours HGV drivers can work so that they can deliver 'vital supplies' great idea, lorry drivers driving tired in bad weather and the dark just so little johnny can get his toy story three DVD in time for christmas. Everyone knows that the winters are getting harsher. Unless your extremely hard up there no excuse not to stock up on vitals is there. PeckhamRose
Oh FFS Sean just for once please don't be such a pratt on what I intended as a helpful thread. Some people shop at that Co-op, a lot of people I know do, and I was merely pointing out that there had not been deliveries there, so that people might read that and know to go elsewhere for their food. I was not advocating panic buying, pablogrande, I was just trying to be helpful. Narnia
I think Sean was just explaining why so many people have read the thread. There wasn't much of a clue in the title as to what the thread was about. SeanMacGabhann
I didn't say anything negative about your first post PRbut your second, a day later, was telling people off for reading and not responding. You only live across the park don't you? And you have a bike (I think)So I responded to that. Thanks for the kind words on this and on the other thread thoYou are quite the charmer Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14638-co-operative-foresthillroad-out-of-fresh-food/#findComment-389550 Share on other sites
pablogrande
I didn't say you were advocating panic buying, when the weather is bad large lorries tend to jacknife so it's sensible to keep them off the road. You mentioned margate which really has very little relevance to my shopping needs if I have to pop out for milk I'll usually nip to broadstairs Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14638-co-operative-foresthillroad-out-of-fresh-food/#findComment-389564 Share on other sites
kford
The Co-op in LL had plenty of empty shelf space, especially the fresh produce. There was lots of bread though. fleur
This is the nearest shop to buy fresh food for many local people but this branch of the Co-op,which i frequent regularly, appears to be obsessed with selling large packs of toilet paper, christmas crackers, chocolate and drink.... .it does have its better days, the staff are generally hardworking but someone in charge of stocking what goes in there must be confused about who actually shops there and what we need everyday. neilson99
I popped in late this afternoon and still not much of anything on the shelves. This in itself isn't unusual as this particular co-op don't seem to be able to discern what the shelves are intended for and often leave food on the floor waiting to be unpacked, but even this seemed in short supply...somehow they still managed to have a massive queue. A few weeks ago they were running out of spare change and were asking punters to help out (clearly unaware that there is post office all of 30 seconds walk away)... wish someone would close this place down and turn it over to a decent operator... PeckhamRose
Thanks for the helpful updates people.I won't ride a motorbike in snow, and as I can't always walk long distances the Co-op is a good bet, along with the shops up Cheltenham Road.I agree the situation is ridiculous in that Co-op. I made the point about the Margate one to show that it's not just this Forest Hill Road co-op that suffers from no deliveries. Sorry if I upset people. Christ on a bike! And as one who picks up every detail on posts, Sean, I am surprised you write a line like "Having realised it's about fresh food at that coop many people would have been surprised such a thing exists, and how would they know a shortage existed." Define many people. See? Let him who is innocent cast the first stone etc etc. I would have thought a lot of people knew the Co-op did fresh food. Just because you don't, doesn't mean everyone doesn't. As you were. SeanMacGabhann
Christ on a bike indeedAs someone who went to that co op for 8 years i think I have a reasonable idea what it's like. But thank you for assuming otherwiseBasically i think it's a glorified cornershop. In a part of town with not a lot of options it is a bit of a lifeline for people but as a source of fresh food? Come on... It's emergency stuff. As long as the forum has been active, people have been decrying that shop so my little "ho ho who knew it served fresh food" was a bit of light hearted ribbing in it's direction. I have seen the franchisees get quite a hard time from head office on a few occasions and have some sympathy for them. It can't be easy to balance that space and location with the profits required. More fresh produce and they risk wastage. I saw the initial post and was going to move it to Ed businesses yesterday. Then i read it, saw what you were trying to do and thought fair enough. But then your follow up a day later came across as a bit finger wagging so I posted why you hadn't had any replies. I also pointed out it isn't really a good source of fresh foodI know the shop well. And I stand by my comments. As ever tho you appear to have a bee in your bonnet when i reply Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/14638-co-operative-foresthillroad-out-of-fresh-food/#findComment-389587 Share on other sites

By some margin the consensus is the shop should be much much better and especially in the fresh produce sectionYour "see? fleur
It is a source of fresh food when the stock is in and well managed. But the bad weather has delayed the usual supplies. Surely, that's the point of this thread,to warn people not to venture out with false hope! SeanMacGabhann
Agreed fleur. But it isn't the only source and the lack of reply in 24 hours told it's own story i thinkIt suggested to me that there wasn't really a problem.
