Plumbing tip: When water freezes it expands by 10%, making it possible for pipes to burst and leak (everywhere) upon thawing. This can easily be avoided by correctly insulating any vulnerable pipes in your home. To arrange a visit or find out more please get in touch.

Should you get a frozen pipe that might burst. Do you know where the interior stopcock is situated most are at the entry to the property if you have a cellar it would be there, or most are under a main sink unit.

Be ready with buckets and cloths to mop up, move anything away from near the frozen pipe as it will get damaged.

Be preparted to keep warm by other ways Gas, or open fire, fill several containers with water as you wont be able to flush toilet or make tea by electric. If you do get a burst remove anything that is moveable off of the floor as water will travel under a carpet and you might not notice until it gets soggy.

If you have turned off your water at the mains, as per Computedshorty's comment, the sense of urgency is reduced, so please, by all means call MORE than one plumber to get the best quote. Just because it's cold and the roads aren't very welcoming doesn't mean you should be ripped off!

Hi Loz,


In addition to the external stopvalve there should also be an internal one, under your sink. If you are in any doubt or lack confidence in your ability to do this yourself please call a qualified plumber to assist you in the event that it is necessary.

      I mean good luck to you, but with 4 staff you have still failed to submit your statutory accounts for your two eligible years of operation and are overdue with them this year too. Companies House have taken steps to close you twice. Your annual loss in trading is increasing each year.  You have had two directors resign in 2022 leaving only 1 in place which isn't the best if you want good governance- but that also stops you from being able to raise funds from trusts and foundations.

      There's still a massive shortage of student housing in London regardless of short term fluctuations - just look at how expensive it is now and what a barrier it is to mobility!       This is probably a stupid question, sorry. Could you contact all the surgeries whose catchment area you are in (and haven't already found wanting) and ask them directly if they have GPs with the knowledge and experience you need? Because I imagine there are not many people using this forum who can help, though I may be wrong.

      I don't understand this, probably my fault. I thought the Crown offices were going to close completely and the  services they provided were going to be moved to local shops with space for a sub post office. But if the Post Office is  seeking franchisees for the Crown offices, that implies that the offices themselves would stay. But if they are not profitable for the Post Office, how could they become profitable for a franchisee?
