ED Broadband Speed

As the exchange is showing as supporting 21CN (the new network) it may be that SDSL was not seen as being necessary; it also depends on the mix of subs on that exchange - if it's mainly residential then Synchronous DSL (which is more about uploading) is less imperative than for a high mix of business subscribers (who may be served from the Forest Hill TX). BT is talking about rolling out Infinity services (FTTC I believe) in March 2011.

just checked my speed I'm with ORANGE - 3792 DOWNLOAD 484 UPLOAD almost snailmail !!

Just been speaking to the various ISP's to change.

Is it worth going with a 10gb limit or 40gb/unlimited at a substantial premium ?

What do other folks download per month not really sure what 10gb worth of downloads is ?

Around 5mbps is roughly the norm for most houses in ED on standard 'BT' type DSL Broadband. Companies may offer more on paper but ultimately it is down to two prevailing factors:

1. Distance from the Telephone Exchange

2. Contention for service on your trunk of the line (if 100 houses on your street have service with Sky, then its likely to affect your line speed)

    • That would be a reasonable attitude as regards the management, but my experience is that the posties are doing the best they can but are woefully understaffed (there's no cover for sickness or leave, and some walks have no regular postie assigned) and, despite denials, packages are prioritised over letter post. Posties can only physically carry parcels to far fewer addresses than letters, which means even on existing walks they don't take letters out wit them if they are carrying parcels. Because they cannot walk to the DO (in Peckham) they have to drive there and back, with two or 3 walks worth in each van. Making covering another postie's  walk that much more difficult.
