My work has a policy that you should make 'every effort' to come in to work and that, if you're unable to get in, you should phone your immediate manager by 10am every day that you are unable to get to work otherwise it will be taken as annual leave or unpaid leave if no annual leave remains.


That seems fair enough to me, although every effort is subject to personal interpretation so some people blag more than others... Personally I find it an effort to get out of bed most mornings, never mind get to work, but still managed to trudge through the snow this morning to find colleagues from Clapham and other tube-serviced parts of London hadn't made it - grumble grumble grumble.
