Parent/baby cinema starting at Peckham Plex in January - register if you might be keen

Recommended Posts

Just passing on a message from the Peckham Plex that they will be starting a parent & baby screening in January. Saves having to trek on the 37 bus to the Ritzy! For those who don't know the Peckham Plex, it is just across from Peckham Rye station, less than 10 minutes on the bus from most parts of ED (63, 363, 12, 197, 37, P13 buses all stop right out front).

The screenings will be held on Thursdays at 11.30am, the price of the tickets is ?5.99 which includes coffee & cake. They also have facilites such as pram park, baby changing and bottle warming facilities. Adults must be accompanied by a baby under 1 year old.

They are trying to gather names of interested parents, so do email via the Peckham Plex website if you want to add your name to their customer list: [www.peckhamplex.com]

They'll need to have a decent attendance to ensure that they can keep this up, so the more people who show interest the better. I want them to have so much demand that they agree to introduce a second screening on Monday or Tuesday once I'm off on maternity leave in March :)

The baby cinema was definitely my favourite part about my last maternity leave!

... surely it's under a year because over a year the babies (well toddlers) aren't going to be able/be fair to expect them to keep still which would be more disruptive than babies crying/feeding during a film.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but suggesting this is the likely reason.

Oh the thought of being in a cinema with my toddler!! Horrendous! Now what I would like is a creche provided.....

Never made it to any of the big scream with no. 1 - would love to try with no. 2 but will need to find childcare. Might start securing my mum now....

Hopefully see some of you there come the spring.

same here...my toddler's attention span is approxinately two minutes and as for sitting still in a seat without a 5 point harness?? Sounds almost like being back on an aeroplane for what was honestly one of the worst nights of my life. Snuggly little three month old though...ahh bliss :)

Yes, the baby cinema trips ended for me once my son was about 8 months. Just too hard to keep him entertained and still that long, even at that age! Now, age 2, I'm lucky if he sits through one episode of Charlie and Lola while I drink a cup of tea.

Glad to see people are interested in this. Let's hope they can make a go of it!

I found with the first two that you only get from newborn - about 9/10 months (when mine started crawling) then the game is up. As soon as they are mobil eyou spend too much time haring about after them to be able to follow the film.

Those first few months when they (hopefully) sleep through the whole film in the car seat/on a playmat are ace though :)

My kid's first films were 1. Borat and 2. Rockandrolla (Guy Ritchie film)!

my baby's first film was Sex and The City 2 - poor boy!!

Great news about Peckham's big scream BTW. Thank you again for sorting and agree we need to spread the word so that as many people as possible register and go, otherwise there's no point in them doing it.

    • Just to clarify, this isn't the same cherry as last year, it's in the corner by the path that runs down to the crossroads of FHR / Colyton / Dunstans.  I'm sure it must have been noticed & flagged during the various planning meetings, walkabouts etc and there is an ecological resolution planned that will avoid any damage to the tree. After all, Gala pride themselves on their environmental stance, being "nestled in the park" and everything... 🤦
    • Those branches are going to get chopped...again. All of this shows the central paradox at the heart of Southwark's greening the streets policy. What is the good of planting trees in tarmac if you are simultaneously wrecking large sections of the park and stopping locals using the park? It just does not make sense. Cllr Catherine Rose should be made to answer for Gala conduct, if they are already flouting the terms of their agreement.
    • All, I have had bad experiences with scaffolders in the past. They have a hard job and sometimes damage your house by accident. The way they deal with it after this is usually what remains in their customers' minds...... and I have used a few different companies across last 12 years as a customer. I don't know if it is an exception, but I found LDS scaffolding's guys really good: Discrete, focused and on time. Their comms was ok. I have made sure I saved their contacts and will use them again. Prices felt fair. LEE GORE 07931642467  DEAN PRICE 07940531370  Olivier
    • I've sent an email to the council about it & other related issues, but I won't hold my breath. There's no representation from the council on site, so Gala can & will do whatever they want. Highly unlikely they'll ever be punished / fined because they've got the council under their thumb, and the council are so starved of funds they'd never risk biting the hand that feeds them.  Also worth noting that in the consultation findings report there's a statement in the section "If the event goes ahead" - "At least 28 days prior to event taking place / Resident information letter posted to properties around the park (giving confirmed event information and resident ‘hotline’ number)" Anyone received one of these yet? No? So are Gala in breach of the council's Outdoor Events Policy? Probably. Will there be any consequence? Nah. Lastly, image attached of the cherry tree in the SW corner of the site, with white lines sprayed on the grass presumably indicating the position of the (very high) metal wall. Looks like the branch might get in the way, however will they resolve that....?
